It's also a city wide Wi-Fi zone but doesn't really work very well. Nevertheless a nice place to chill.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 March 2024

A relaxing place after a long walk around the city. There is a nice circular fountain in the center and a red phone booth like those that were so popular and numerous in the UK.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 May 2024

There was a small waterfall in the center of the square, along with several benches and shaded areas to relax on. Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2024

Independence Square was nothing special in our books. It was a pretty greenspace with a nice fountain. However, a block away was a really cool clock in the roundabout. Its the Berkley Memorial Clock Tower. Its shape reminds me of the clock in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Only bigger!

Close to the middle of colourful Basseterre. Originally called Pall Mall Square, apparently it dates back to the mid-18th century. An ornate fountain stands at the centre of the park and the grassy areas are an area of relaxation. A delight to spend time in.

Go with an eye towards knowing the history of this site, as well as enjoying some of the surrounding architecture, and you will not be disappointed. This really is a lovely area. If you are not used to the heat/humidity, do be prepared with something to drink. Another reviewer (KiMAGIC) recommended the local ice cream truck as a way of beating the heat; so give that a try as well.

When you arrive by cruise ship you are dumped into an area that was built by the cruise lines. Basically a tourist trap. It's like you have not left the states. If you are looking for island feel, keep walking. You empty out into the downtown area. Take a picture of you in the phone booth. Walk the streets and Make sure you walk to independence square and visit the cathedral. It is very peaceful and quiet. Everyone was very nice and we felt safe.

This is a lovely quiet park, the heart of the rightly prized independence of this island. Children play, older folk sit and enjoy the peace, only a couple of minutes from the bustling centre. Delightful!

We enjoyed wandering in the downtown area and walking through Independence Square. It's a lovely green space with shops and restaurants on one side and a Cathedral on the other. Statues and trees and benches, all the locals were out during their lunch hour. I posed in the red phone booth on the edge of the park, a nice bright contrast to the green park.

Independence square is in the very center of Basseterre. It's a nice place to cool down in tree shades after the capital exploration.
The middle of the square is adorned with a nice fountain while on the eastern side is the Immaculate Conception Cathedral which is worth visiting.
