About
If you're looking for a tranquil beach escape, visit Rum Point on Grand Cayman. The calm and shallow turquoise waters and the long stretch of sandy beach make it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling—try to spot the reef fishes, stingrays, and turtles in the water. There are also beach volleyball courts for some fun with the crew. In the evening, enjoy the stunning sunset views from the dock or rent a kayak and witness the neon glow of the Bioluminescent Bay. You can stop by on a sailing tour of Grand Cayman or book a villa near the beach for the ultimate experience. – Tripadvisor

- Iris B167 contributionsIt’s a beach and a barIf you don’t have access to a beach, Rum Point is a good place to go and hang out. Often there’s music playing. Beach is free access but bring everything. The part of the beach with amenities will cost you. Nice bar/restaurant there although we only tried the bar. Drinks aren’t cheap, but are full sized and strong. Great place to view the sunsetVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023
- Ray P132 contributionsGreat beachfront experienceOne of a kind oceanfront beach experience. Completely renovated beach bar with lots of tables, lounging areas, chaise lounges. Great frozen drinks and a diverse menu. (Please no outside food or beverages.) calm waters make snorkeling easy. Nice pier, cool breezed and palms. Had to pull myself away at day’s end. Highly recommend it.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 January 2024
- Susan L1 contributionChanged so much!We haven't been to Rum Point since 2001!! Still beautiful, but a lot more there. Great restaurant, BIG homes, great beach and beautiful view:) Well worth the trip over!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 February 2024
- natster6Peru, Illinois72 contributionsNice to have chairs available, not great snorkeling. Good for kids.We drove to the Rum Point Club on a low cruise day. We were able to use deck chairs and found some shade. We obeyed their posted notice to not bring in food and coolers... But others did not. The swimming area was nice, especially for kids. I snorkeled from the shore but there was a lot of grass and not many fish to see. We were expecting to have to pay rental on the chairs, but we did not. We also figured there would be cocktail waiters hounding us to purchase drinks and food, but that was not the case. There are food and drinks available but we weren't there at a meal time, so we didn't order. Nice restrooms and showers. Water sports available for rent. There's a dive shop and a pier. There is also an adjacent public beach but it wasn't very tidy and was completely shaded, so we opted to visit the club. We stayed a couple hours and then drove on down to Starfish Point, which we enjoyed more... But no chairs.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2024
- Michelle HPittsburg, Texas214 contributionsSad that it’s no longer a charming and peaceful oasisSadly it’s a victim of its own success. We used to come here on the day before our flight home to relax and wish we were staying longer. Now it is so crowded, over developed, and has lost its charm. We stopped by after the cave tour since we were so close. People, crowds, noise everywhere, and no available chairs or spots to lounge. It was not what we remember, and it is no longer what made it so great. We are sorry for anyone who never got to visit it when it was charming.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 February 2024
- Barbra MCanada6 contributionsOne to missWe often visit here, but we were disappointed with rum point. The changes they have made are wonderful, modern and much needed for the area. However, the food and drinks were average and the service poor. We would no longer drive here from our hotel at the other side of the island. Nothing on this side worth the dive.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 March 2024
- CarogUK92 contributionsBeautiful location, shame about the foodAbout a 40 minute drive out of George Town, Rum Point beach club is a stunning location. Set in a little bay which is shallow for quite a way out, the beach chairs and parasols are free to use. No outside food and drink allowed but there is a bar and restaurant which is how they make their money. I wouldn’t mind paying $14 for two coffees but these were mediocre at best and the chicken sandwich that husband and I shared was only ok! So 5 stars for the location and 3 stars for food and drink. That said the virgin pina colada was yummy.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 March 2024

- Katherine K29 contributionsStill Beautiful, but Losing its CharmMy family and I first visited Rum Point 9 years ago when it was known for its very rustic charm. Skip to this trip, and Rum Point has grown up! The vibe is still relaxing and calm, and they did an excellent job in their renovations. Their new bar area is beautiful, but their service left something to be desired. It felt like we were bothering the staff any time we ordered anything; there was no energy behind their efforts and their POS system kept getting knocked offline. Their drinks are overpriced and there is hardly alcohol in them; hence why my group switched to beer only. It is still beautiful, but it lost some of its charm. Highly recommend a visit, but it isn’t what it used to be. The water is still exceptional on the Point and they installed nice floating beds to soak in the hot sun. We’ll always be back to visit, but I hope management works with their staff to make their guests feel more welcome.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 March 2024
- Mark FQueen Creek, Arizona34 contributionsWonderful surpriseWe had a wonderful day at rum Point. It is a private beach, but usage is free. There are beach chairs set up with umbrellas. I would suggest you get there early if you want umbrellas. We pulled chairs beneath a large fir tree near the water. Turned out to be a great spot. There is a restaurant there and a full bar. You are not allowed to bring in outside food or drinks.not a bad trade off for a very nice beach with nice facilities. We enjoyed it so much we plan to go back this week.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 April 2024

We stayed at the Morritt’s on the east end. We bought tickets for Stingray city trip at Red Sails Sports at our complex. The $60.00 per person ticket was for the glass bottom boat to Stingray city and a snorkel spot. It was scheduled for 1:30 to 3:00. It was to pick us up at Rum Point. We drove the rental (29 minutes drive)to Rum Point and got there about 10:00AM. Getting there early means you pick your seats where you want. We relaxed watched the water. It was a little too cold to swim. Watched the cruise ship people starting to arrive and fill the place. Service was great. Drank some frozen drinks which were nice an strong. Ate lunch food was tasty and reasonable cost. By that time it was time for the boat trip. It was a great lay over to our snorkel trip. Don’t think I would go there just for rum point since we have a great accommodations at our resort. But we got in Rum Point- Stingray and Starfish point all in one day.

We rented a car to drive to Rum Point, which is also accessible by ferry from Camana Bay. Parking was easy to find. It's a private property with a couple of outdoor restaurants and bars And souvenir shop. They serve you outdoors at brightly coloured picnic tables, each with a menu held down by a coconut for a nicely added touch. The mudslide drink was invented here but it was not as good as the mudslides found at Guy Harvey's bar in Georgetown. We would not swim at the beach; there was only a few feet of white sand in the water and then dark brown scary grass and rock. Not pleasant at all. Lots of available beach chairs. Good service. We stayed for a couple of hours including eating and shopping. Definitely a laid back Caribbean vibe. The only downside was the uninviting water.

The buffalo wings are really good. We took Angela's taxi 323 0578 (she approved of me sharing her number. She was the nicest person we met on island and transported us safely and gave useful tips and was very reasonable with prices as well.

Visited midday in late April 2023 off peak season. After spending a ridiculous amount on drinks & snacks, I attempted to enjoy the last hour before our party of 5 departed enjoying an obscenely Grand Cayman priced Cuban cigar in a lounge chair on the beach at Rum Point situated 50ft + from any other visitor. About halfway through the primo high dollar smoke, a French waiter from the nearby BBQ seated service area walked onto the beach and interrupted my solitude to inform me “Sir, smoking is not allowed on the property” and further indicated that no smoking signs were posted at entrance. I pointed out that that all posted signs specifically referenced a prohibition on outside food & drink, but NO prohibition on smoking. The waiter doubled down on his nonsensical assertion of a posted “no smoking” area and followed me back to where our vehicle was parked past two signs in an attempt to point out my non compliance, at which point I brought to his attention that neither of those two signs made any mention or reference of “no smoking”. When confronted with the fact that “no smoking” was not posted at Rum Point entrance signs, the waiter sheepishly informed me he would “notify his manager” of the absence of posted smoking ban. After finishing the pricey cigar in the parking lot, I returned to our spot on the beach, then sought & approached the waiter in the adjacent BBQ food service area and inquired “so what did your manager say”, to which he responded with silence while and walking away with no verbal response. I would never smoke in an area where prohibited, but the unprofessional chastising of a customer on a sparsely occupied beach well away from other beach goers at Rum Point for a non existent smoking ban is ample reason to seek a venue other than Rum Point to spend significant $$$. Pathetic and totally uncalled for behavior by Rum Point stafff.

I decided to grab a nice lunch with my friends at the rum point restaurant on the beach. The views are amazing and the food was good. However, the service I received was shocking. I waited 15 minutes when I first arrived for the server to even look at me. When I ordered my food, she was rude, hovering over my friends and I and genuinely unpleasant. I got my food 20 minutes later (which I was pleased with) however, half way through my meal our waitress came up to us and started typing in the card machine, hovering over us once again when we’re eating our food. She tried to make us pay half way through our meal which i personally find very unprofessional and rude. Coming from the service industry myself, this is not how u greet customers.

Seriously boring. Not really sure why anyone goes here other than to take a boat to stingray city or take a quick view of starfish beach. We ate at the restaurant (the only one open during the day). It was the worst service on the island. The snorkeling is poor and there's not much to do. Save yourself the trip and stay at 7 mile beach.

We went twice to Rum Point during our fortnight holiday. there were far too few sun loungers for those visiting, which meant first visit short. Disappointed the cocktail menu did not have the wonderful Rum Point Sunset Cocktail on it. Disappointing all the work still going on at the height of the visitor period- it was very noisy.
Highlight - our wonderful server Gabriel who was a delight and gave great advice on food choices - thank you Gabriel. We hope you are there next year!!!

Rum Point is not what is used to be back in the 80's, which was an old shack that made great burgers, rum drinks, & a few snacks. It only had a couple of tables and a few hammocks but the view is still the same. Commercialization got hold of the area and built up a restaurant, great pier, all kinds of chairs & such. Drinks are a lot more expensive but still good but the view is still spectacular, deep blue and you can walk out 200 yards or so in waist deep water.

If you want a relaxing atmosphere in a beach setting, this is the place. Even little kids can wade in the shore where the water is typically calm. Restaurant staff will help satisfy your thirst and hunger. It is quiet. It will bring your anxiety level down. We stayed for 5 hours.

I have been here about 4 times thus far, on the outside this ticks all the boxes for an amazing day, location, facilities, menus, service etc Im going to draw the line here, the food is mediocre, the service is lacking, there is zero urgency while waiting at the bar. Just yesterday a table in the bar when we arrived @ 1pm was still not cleaned @ 5pm, the exact same drinks were on the table. For me its like being on a bus and theres no driver, i would like to know whos actually in charge of this location is in serious need of a shake up, it has so much potential it just needs someone to direct it in a professional manner, please bring back the “ wow”
factor this needs. Service needs to be on point and there is zero room for a second impression.
I wont nit pick at smaller things but please, please get the act to sing from the same hem sheet 🙏

Is Rum Point Beach back open? I've seen multiple posts that's it has been closed.

There is a water taxi, but we did not use it. We rented a car and it's a easy drive to get to Rum Point. Note: if you rent a car from Avis at the airport, they pick you up for free and take you back to cruise port or hotel.

I will be stopping at Rum Point as a stop on our cruise in January 2020. There is not an option to book an excursion through my cruise to go to Stingray City and Rum Point. If I get to Rum Point, is there an option to get a ride from there to Stingray City and back? Maybe Jetski rental or HobieCat that I can sail over to Stingray City for 30 minutes and come back? Will I need to book something ahead of time?

What effect, if any, has the Rum Point Club luxury condos had on the crowds at Rum Point? We've stayed at the Retreat condos next door and watched the massive condo construction commence. My fear is that the new condos ruin the Wreck Bar and beaches.

Written 20 December 2018
I see the last few reviews on Rum Point have not been great, does anyone know what is causing the water to be brown and when it will clear up? Is the whole north side having this issue?
Written 24 September 2018
Seriously, it has nothing to do with a hurricane on the east coast of US. In fact it is a natural occurrence from heavy rain washing in pigmented water from the mangroves. The seaweed on the other hand is Sargassum. It also occurs naturally but this year seems to be a bad year in different parts of the island. If you can wait a while the water will clear up.
On the other hand worry about the new mega cruise ship port they want to build in Georgetown. That is man made and will destroy some of the best reef accessible from shore. Ya see what nature does it nature takes care of, what man does for greed destroys for ever!

Where can we go for breakfast while staying in Rum Point?
Written 3 September 2018
I don't know of a specific breakfast spot out there. Perhaps the Kaibo Yacht Club. But the bar/restaurants at Rum Point proper don't open until at least 11AM. This is definitely more of a "have breakfast at the house" kind of environment vs Seven Mile Beach.
Written 17 September 2018
The water was very nice. There was a lot of sargassum all down the south and east coast but the north and west coast is clear at least when we were there in June. I figure with the tide and wind direction it spares the west and north coast.
