I Had the pleasure of taking two surf lessons with Steve Howen on Josiah’s bay. The Waves were huge ( like 10-12 feet) and Steve gave me the courage to take this on- he gave me so many great tips that will always be with me when I surf the east coast here in Nahant, massachusetts. I was mortified at first at the size of the waves and definitely took my body and lungs to the max all with Steve’s support- i learned so much and im so happy i got through it. The next day waves were more defined for my lesson and it was utterly spectacular to catch a few. Steve’s surf school was a slice of paradise on the most amazing beach !! Steve has a wonderful presence here and is a very talented surfer, instructor and awesome person.

I've been coming to Josiah's for many years and had rented a board a few times, but in December I started making it to the beach most days. Steve and his staff, along with the normal local crowd, make for a great group of people to be around while enjoying the sun, sand, and waves. Surfing is a challenging sport, but it's been great learning at Josiah's with the guidance and camaraderie of Steve and others. Easily the most fun activity I've taken on in years. I would highly recommend making a visit to Josiah's Bay and hitting up the BVI Surf School! One other great reason to stop by is to see BB the dog, a true example of how to enjoy life (pictured in my review). Catch you out there!

My family and I visited Josiah bay two times while we were vacationing in BVI recently. Both our visits were very enjoyable. On our first visit we rented paddle boards and kayaks but could not do any surfing as the beach was calm with no waves. On our second visit we had fairly good waves and we were able to take surfing lessons from Steve. Steve was a very patient teacher and took his time to teach our interested family members to surf. He was extremely affable, friendly, and it was a pleasure to meet and know him. A great experience at the Surf School BVI

We ended up at Surf School BVI despite the taxis and cruise ships trying to steer us to a crowded tourist beach. What we found was paradise. Our group of 12 had a private surf lesson on a private beach. We took a taxi ($12 per person each way) stopped at a store and picked up drinks and snacks. There is a pic nic table there and a small bar. What more could you need? Steve was so very helpful and had our first time surfers up on waves in minutes. This was the highlight of our 7 day cruise.
