Beach chair and umbrella rentals very reasonable. Also very close to the Buccaneer Bar and the Greenhouse.Visited February 2023Written 26 February 2023
- Mare524Windsor, Canada244 contributionsCalm kid-friendly beachKim She beach was really nice. We parked at Buccaneer Beach Bar, who let us park for free (we were there during down season, so it may be different during busy season), and we walked to the beach. Our kids really loved how calm the water was compared to our hotel beach (Maho Beach), and how far they could swim out and still touch the bottom. We didn't rent anything, but there was a rental shop at the end of the beach where you can rent snorkel gear, and small boats too.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 September 2023

Music excruciatingly loud. The whole bay could hear it. We were staying down the beach from the club Roxxy and with windows and doors closed we could still hear the bass and feel the vibrations. We couldn’t sleep nor listen to the waves.

We stopped here on 14th January 2023 as part of a Shore Excursion from our Royal Caribbean ship, Voyager of the Seas. The excursion was handled by Rendezvous Tours. The beach was OK. A bit gritty but with a very severe drop-off into deep water. As part of the excursion we had lunch vouchers for the Green House restaurant. The guys in there were excellent - friendly and great customer service as well as really nice food.
My rating though is based on the person 'leading' our tour who was called Melissa. She was rude and abrupt with both her paying customers and also her own driver. As our very first introduction to the beautiful island of St Maarten she couldn't have given us a much worse impression. When we got to the beach, umbrellas were already laid out for us but she demanded they be taken away and only those of us willing to pay $5.00 could use them. Again, there was no please or thank you, just a surly face and a hand held out. I actually think this may have been some kind of scam whereby she was skimming cash off of the top. All in all, she ruined our day but the guys in the Green House restaurant did their best to make it more memorable than she unfortunately did.

We've stayed at the Atrium many times over 30 years. The beach out back (Kim Sha) is always calm and relatively free of seaweed - especially compared to Orient beach - which is very hit or miss and always windy in July!

Carlos is a savage primate. We rented a kayak (he could have warned us the winds were way too strong and this was not a good day to kayak for anyone …we should have gotten a clue given no one was renting…but he s the professional and should have warned us). We rented for 2hrs and returned within 28 minutes because the winds and currents were drifting us away in the open ocean. Far too dangerous. When we came back, we were hoping he would charge us the full hour but refund the second. Even if he didn’t want to refund, he could have been cordial and explain he wouldn’t. Instead he SCREAMED on top of his lungs. Carlos is an animal who ruined our trip. Never again.

This is a small beach but swimming friendly. I loved Orient Beach but the waves were huge - not at all the case here. Fairly shallow for a bit, no waves and the water is decently warm. The blue chairs are part of Atrium but if you tip you can sit there if not staying there. Even when I stay at Atrium I tend to sit in the yellow chairs that belong to Buccaneer Beach Bar as I am ordering drinks anyways so its more convenient for me. Lovely spot to watch the sunset as well. Plus you can easily get to the Captain Rib Shack for take out if you aren't feeling the food options on the beach. I did notice the sand isn't quite as soft as some of the other beaches on the island but still overall its a nice option for a beach day if you want the amenities of restaurants and a bar.

Can you go to this beach without taking the royal carribean cruise?

Yes. It is a public beach easily accessed from a major roadway in Sint Martin, a short taxi or rental car ride from the international airport on the island.

Trying to decide between Kim Sha thru ship excursion using cruise credit or Greay Bay Beach on our own. I really want calm water, no waves. It sounds like Great Bay is very easy to do from the cruise port.

Never done Great bay so can't compare but although Kim Sha was nice the beach does have quite a steep drop off as you enter and quite strong waves so wouldn't recommend for youngters.Hope this helps and enjoy whatever you choose

How much is a taxi from ship terminal to kim sha beach
Leanne & Gary
Sudbury, Canada58 contributions
Take a bus - it’s only $2. Buses are vans and you’ll see “MAHO” in a sign on the dash. A so driver to drop you of at Kim Sha. Lots of bars and great restaurants on that strip as well. There are tons of taxi vans all over downtown. You’ll rarely wait more than 19 minutes.

Hi, I've read your review of the Kim Sha Sha beach. You wrote that would not be your first choice. What would you recomend?
Thank you, Bigll

With so many beaches within close proximity, it's easy to be picky. KIM Sha was really beautiful and within walking distance to a lot of different restaurants and right next to a bar, but when we went there was a good bit of seaweed in the water. You could find spots to wade without it, but we went really early in the morning when it was just us on the beach so it probably gets busier later in the day. There were a lot of water sports you could rent though so if you're looking to paddleboard and move past the initial seaweed line, then it actually would be one of my first choices.
Which beach to visit that not too far from royal Caribbean cruise ship terminal in St Maarten

Hello Anna. Upon arrival with your cruise ship, you'll be at Great Bay which is quite beautiful. You can't miss Maho Beach, which is one of the most famous beaches in the world because you can stand right below the huge airplanes as they land on St Maarten. On your way to Maho Beach you could stop off at Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Village - you'll feel like you're in the south of France! Enjoy your trip.

I would say 14$ but around that. 14$-16$. Taxis are very expensive on the island for the distances.
