A neat Dutch counterpart to France's Fort Louis!

I admit it: I'm a sucker when it comes to Forts, be they in the New World or the Old. But this particular Fort stood out for me in both its antiquity (circa 1631) and in the views... read more

I admit it: I'm a sucker when it comes to Forts, be they in the New World or the Old. But this particular Fort stood out for me in both its antiquity (circa 1631) and in the views it affords once you reach it. Like most fortified positions, it sits in a commanding position overlooking the Great Bay, affotrding the... More

The walk up the hill is tough but well worth the effort as once there the view across the bay is wonderful. You can look down on both of the bays and watch the sail boats sail by. There are some old cannons on the site and a couple of other buildings which have information boards written in English as... More

This fort is one of the more accessible forts of the Dutch side, and it lies in a nice environment. The only thing that might be the problem is that you have to pass a checkpoint of a hotel, but no worries, the fort isn't private property! They placed very informative boards along the path. The best time to visit... More

My wife and I like to visit old & historic places when we vacation. As it was only a 5 minute walk from the Divi Little Bay Resort we made the trek. We were there for about 30 minutes taking pictures reading signs watching pelicans and enjoying the view. I would recommend anyone staying at the resort to make the... More

Our friend lives on St. MARTIN. (Lucky) we went island touring. Fort amsterdam is heavy with an interesting history. Restaruants nearby were fabulous. It can get very hot, so bring the sunscreen and water.

This place was a short walk from out hotel, the remains are so interesting and the signage helpful to understanding a history I knew nothing about. Go at sunset for spectacular views

This is a small fort with several canons overlooking the bay and the ocean. You had a good view of the pelican nesting area as well as some neighboring islands.

While visiting the island we hiked up to see the fort which provided a nice history of this area of the island and allowed for some beautiful pelican watching. The views at sunset are breathtaking!!!!

I visited here when we came to beach at Divi Beach Hotel from Cruise Port. We picked a cab/Mini Bus from the cruise port and the driver took us through the security to the Hotel where we hired two beds and unbrella for $15. Fort Amsterdam built in 1631 is located on the narrow peninsula separating Little Bay to Great... More

We caught a taxi from our resort and then hiked up to the fort and the views were breathtaking! The history of the Fort was very cool and their were pelican nesting areas.
