We have used this service twice now. The first was in April 2022 and the second is January 2024. Chris and his team are very attentive and really want to make sure you feel well cared for at all times.
You can sense his pride in Saint Lucia as he talks about the various regions. His knowledge of local plants runs very deep, as he also owns and operates a farm.
We have taken the farm tour where you will see just how lovingly his family tends for the crops and the land. Just recently we tried the clay pot experience led by his aunt. This was truly something different and special. You learn about the history of clay pot making and get to go hands-on and try it yourself!
Also on the tour were two fantastic meals: one by Island Chef and one by Chris’s mother. Both were flavorful and fresh. The Island Chef’s kitchen is 20 meters from where the catch of the day are brought into Soufrière. 20m in the other direction is the farmer’s market, so you will not know what is coming until that morning. This is a good thing!
My family have significant gluten allergies among other things. Chris and his partners were very attentive to these, asking plenty of questions, and making every effort to keep us safe.
Also on this tour, we got to see the remains of the sugar mills that used to be of vital importance to the island’s commerce. The ruins are hauntingly beautiful as they are set in a lush green landscape that is now dedicated to other farming.
The traditional meal at the end of the tour is served in traditional calabash bowls and really end-caps a day filled with St. Lucian tradition.
There are other sites that you can choose from in order to custom-tailor your tour to your liking. Chris will also help give you that reassuring knowledge of how to get places and what to look for.
If you’re into health and wellness, everything natural, and want to truly see the authentic culture of the island: this is for you!
