- Nellie010Cardiff, United Kingdom81 contributionsDreadful placeIf anyone is thinking of coming to Rodney bay for a lovely beach, then don’t! We arrived yesterday, thought we would spend a day on the beach, walked there about 5 minutes away. It was absolutely rammed, couldn’t even see the beach! I’ve never seen anything like it, was so disappointed. The people were arriving by the dozen, as two cruise ships had docked. Have visited many countries all over the world, this is by far one of the worst!!!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 January 2024
- cherryonTop82Ayr, United Kingdom6 contributionsRodney bayWe have just left the reduit beach at Rodney bay today after stopping off from marella cruise. On arrival we were looked after by Chantelle who made sure we had everything we needed. Lovely rum punch and beer bucket brought to our lounger. We were looked after very well from arrival until we left.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 April 2024
- girlscouse60Chipping Ongar, United Kingdom442 contributionsNiceNice beach, but I have experienced much more beautiful Caribbean beaches. I realise it is a public beach, but the entrance via the road has a lot of litter, mainly beer bottle tops. I've seen tourists smoking and then putting cigarette buts in the sand. WHY? The beach restaurants are good, but expensive. Rodney Bay itself has a nice vibe about it.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024
- SnapperHead5 contributionsNice island, but this one has been checked off.The trip up to Rodney Bay is a rough 1.5 hrs over some pothole filled winding roads with locals who have no issues in jumping out to pass even when they have no idea what is coming towards them. Each town has some type of construction, detours and traffic, so don't believe you will be able to hop around this island and see things easily. We had a car, but kicked out on some things just because we didn't want to fight the drive time. Rodney Bay is a beautiful bay, but the sand from the in town side was course and we didn't use the beach there. Pigeon Island was great and the hike and views from Ft. Rodney and then Signal Hill (same area for the $10 entrance fee) were wonderful. Signal Hill is a climb/scramble over rocks and only for the fit person. Ft. Rodney most could do, but the last uphill part would be a challenge for some, so you may have to settle for the lower lookouts. All beaches in St. Lucia are open to the public and there is a free beach just outside the entrance to Pigeon Island with a food/drink place and chairs. We actually paid the $10 each a couple of days to go back into Pigeon island and use that beach since it had plenty of shade trees. The gate area also rents lounge chairs here for $3. Prices were in USD. Best eats were at Elena's Italian/Pizzeria where you can get a combination of things and gelato (ice cream) with a view of the marina and Amici's which was also had pizza and seafood. Amici's is more in the town area near one of the Massey's grocery stores. Naked Fisherman we thought was up on the cliff overlooking the water, but was a small on the beach (in the sand) place down a long flight of steps. No cover at the tables, so if it rains which it did frequently you get handed an umbrella. The food was good, but not what we expected. Judging the way most people were dressed (nice), I assume they were taken back some as well. We did a dive and drive with Scuba Steves. Nice boat ride down the island to Anse Chastanet dive location then Soufriere town. Concept seems good, but getting handed off to a cab driver (dedicated to us of course) after being soaking wet from diving then being taken to a nice restarant with out any means to hose off wasn't nice. I think I needed more dramamine for the ride back than I would have for the boat. I know this is a Rodney Bay review, but overall I was surprised St. Lucia was a more impoverished island than I thought. Not sure why given number of tourists and the larger restorts. If you are an animal person the sight of very thin stray dog's and cats will tear at you. We brought a bag of dog food, left it in the car and dumped it around as needed. Some beautiful parts of the island and it is in the Carribean, so no doubt lovely water, but for our group I would say this is a one and done.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2024

The wait staff here work hard to disrespect the guests... I don't know if they hate their jobs, hate tourists or hate yachts, but they are rude and begrudging...if you ask for crisp fries, expect soggy and undercooked. My hus band asked for more water, he was ignored. He was thirsty and asked again, the waitress did nothing to help, she went and stood with the other idle staff, arms folded an glaring...I guess we should not be here, and will not come again. This is not an isolated incident. Staff here are routinely rude.I do not understand why the staff are so rude.

We took a boat ride an Rodney Bay in Castries, St. Lucia for one of our tours. We were able to see the island from the water. We passed some of the big resorts and were able to catch a beautiful sunset on the ride back

Absolutely love this beach, love the fruit ‘boat’ the bananas are amazing. Only problem was sun beds are packed in, was ok when we first got there, but beds kept being out around us and you struggled to get to the sea. My advice, when getting there don’t turn right, turn left and walk a 100 metres, much more room. My photos are from my lounger.

Our family of 4 adults traveled to St. Lucia in January 2023. We rented an airbnb in Rodney Bay, primarily because we knew we wanted to be in an area with some action, and didn't want to have to drive everywhere we went. The airbnb was wonderful! It was right in the heart of Rodney Bay, and afforded us the opportunity to walk to dinner, to the grocery store, to the marina, etc. There is definitely nightlife in Rodney Bay- music, restaurants, night clubs, etc. We felt safe walking at night in this area, because we were in a group.

We stayed 4 nights in Rodney Bay, visiting different places each day. With a car it is easy, but hiring a taxi would be equally easy. Great restaurants in our area, too - Razmataz & Spice of India.

We stopped at Rodney Bay as part of an historical tour on St. Lucia. The British built fortifications here in the 1800s. There is a steep climb to a gun position. The views from the top are panoramic. The site was used as a communication post by the Americans during World War II.

We took 2 catamaran charters in November and December 2021, sitting at anchor in Rodney Bay on many occasions. The vibe in Rodney Bay is great. Bars and restaurants abound and there’s shops too for a little retail therapy. Looking out to sea the view along the expansive golden sand of Reduit beach, Pigeon Island to the right, Martinique visible on a clear day less than 30 nautical miles away. The real treasure is to be found in the far left hand corner at the locals beach. Ann Marie’s Rum shack which she has been operating for over 40 years. It’s an absolute gem and really gives you a taste of true St Lucia. Ann Marie cooks fresh fish daily with expert knowledge on an open fire and serves ice cold Piton ( local beer ), Rum punch, Spiced Rum plus non alcoholic beverages.

Is it safe to use a US credit card in Rodney Bay or should we use cash only?

It's probably too late now, but we had no problems using a debit/credit card there.

Where in Rodney bay is recommend to go and lime on a Saturday night ?
Any popular bars to bar hop?

Hi..as agreed with the other reviewers to this question there are many great places to hit whilst in Rodney Bay but in particular i enjoyed 'Keebies' which seemed to become our preferred spot. Suggest you take in the Gros Islet Street Party on a Friday night, it goes on till about 2.00 am! Great atmosphere, party vibes, loads of local food and drinks on sale..its a must!

Hi, 2 of us are thinking of getting an apartment (not hotel) for a week in Nov 2019. Is it safe there for Brit girls staying in the beach area not in a hotel? Not intending to stay out late (but would like a few drinks early eve in local bars). And not intending any daft behaviour. We would like to hire a car and explore the island too, is this safe? thanks

I believe it is ok. But for your info my sister stayed with us on a beautiful villa up on the cliff above the bay and I had to drive her car for a week because she was too scared to drine on the curvy bumpy roads [on the left, but you are used to driving on the left]

How much is transportation from the airport to Rodney bay
Written 10 October 2017
A taxi can be anything from $80. We booked ours with our travel agent so it could vary. It's a good hour and a half away from Rodney Bay but nice scenery along the way and hopefully you will get a nice driver who will point places of interest out to you. Rodney Bay is lovely..... Enjoy

I will be staying at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay on a room only basis. Are there plenty of places to eat locally? Are there any street vendors? love Caribbean food and would like to take it back to the hotel and warm up in the microwave
Written 30 September 2017
I dont recall any street vendors but a few random stalls selling fruit and veg. The only mobile vender I encountered was on Reduit Beach, a local lady selling roti and curry

St. Lucia is an island where people goes for the beaches, people and landscape. NOT for shopping (I will never understand why people asks for shopping malls on a island where everything has to be imported, has high import duties and you would not even be able to afford stuff). Rodney bay is NOT the city. You want city? Go to gros-islet or viewfort. But be aware, they are rather bigger villages. Still nice to see (once)
Written 23 September 2017
you are right at the same time, you expect a price list at the beach? prepair yourself, talk to NICE people and ask. i bet you did not even have one single EC dollar. Comparing BBDOS to STLUCIA is highly unfair. BBDOS is a rich island with very rich people. They would have a price list and charge you even more.
