The Montserrat Volcano Observatory is where the most studied volcano in the world is monitored 24/7. The short video presentation at the centre ($4 per person if not in the tour cost) shows the spectacle of the eruption and pyroclastic flows that enveloped the main town of Plymouth. Toilet facilities and a small (expensive) gift shop area.

In order to understand the active volcano, the MVO is a must see. There is an informative video along with several walls of pictures that describe the area and effects of the volcano on the island.

The observatory is a great place to visit and see the Monserrat volcano from a non-obstructed visual perspective. There are people to answer questions and a very small gift shop with some unique items to buy. We visiting ten year before (2016) we were able to go into the scientific area and see the observation deck and the siesmic equipment.... More

Well worth the visit. Public area is quite small but worthwhile. Very informative - fantastic learning experience. And souvenirs you cannot find anywhere else!

The film and displays at the Volcano Observatory provide and excellent introduction for a visit to the volcanic exclusion zone and the destroyed city of Plymouth. It also provides wonderful vistas of the island and the volcano.

Photos aren't allowed at this museum. It's their right, but for that reason alone I wouldn't come back. They do have a few more pictures of the actual eruptions than the Hilltop cafe and a bit of educational material - if you've got time go, if not - enjoy other places.

When we arrived we were shown in to watch a video about plymouth, the eruption and what the MVO do. It was fascinating and informative. We were then shown down in to where they monitor the volcano. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of our questions. we had an amazing view of the volcano and really... More

Great view to just stand & watch the volcano . Good informative film to view for 20-30 mins which runs every 15 mins after the hour.

Definitely worth the trip. The movie really helped us better understand what happened on the island. Staff was very helpful and we had the good fortune of meeting and speaking with on of the volcanologists who was working at the observatory. Do wish there were more substantial exhibits.
