Good beach, good shell/rocks to collect

The beach wasn't really dark black, but it was pretty nonetheless. Boys enjoyed looking at everything and finding shells and volcanic rocks.

Hard to find. no signs. You need to stop by a locked chainlink fence and a guardrail at a crook in the road and then follow a dry stream bed down to the beach. Lots of holes in the ground as you walk along and we found out they were sand crabs, 1000s of them. The beach has lots of... More

We visited the Black sand beach , but there was very little black sand! The pictures I have seen of the beach were beautiful, but did not look like the beach the day we went. Nice easy hike to the beach.

Beautiful shaded hike down to this secluded beach. The trail is next to the house with the huge steer skull. It took us awhile to find the trail as it's not well marked. Well worth the effort to find it!

I had pretty high expectations for this beach and was a little disappointed. First and foremost, there were no signs to get there, just a poll that was spray painted. It was a very small beach and wasn't as black of sand as expected. Only portions of it were and the rest was fairly normal. It was also a pretty... More

The hike back to the ocean is not very far off the road, nice and in the shade most of the way. The sand is a mix of black and tan but very cool. Its heavy, not like any sand I have ever seen or felt. When the sand gets caught in the water it sparkles. Not the best swimming... More

This was so cool! We overshot the entrance several times. The sign is actually spray painted on a concrete pole to the right of the entrance. You have to walk down an old river bed about 10 minutes down to the beach. If you turn left, there are rocks and a beautiful view, but if you turn to the right,... More

I've been to the Black Sand beach in Vik Iceland and it's actually black. This is mostly brown sand with specks of black volcanic sand. The sand is not fine so you can't even swim there. Not worth the 10-15 minute walk from the road to the beach.

If you were to blink you would miss the "entrance" to this beach. We parked by an art gallery and walked 10-15 minutes on a trail in which there were encounters with wild horses and other beautiful things. We were told that the trail was new and hadn't been there very long, and I can't imagine what it was like... More

A fun 10 minute hike takes you through a natural area with lots of local plants and animals (if you're quiet you can see the crabs scurry into their holes in the ground) and to the black sand beach. The hematite sand glimmers in the Sun and contrasts with the ocean water and the orange-red cliffs - it is really... More
