Our favorite stop at El Yunque
About a 20 minute walk off the road. Within seconds you are deep into the rainforest. It’s even relatively sheltered in the rain with the trees. Well maintained trail that made it fine for our 8-year-old. Great payoff is a river swimming hole. Perfect.

Natural Pools at Angelito Trail
We took this 15 minute hike in the late afternoon around 3:30 and stayed an hour and a half. There was easy parking right on side of road. I am 63 with a bad ankle and the hike was easy enough for me if I took the uphill back slowly. Loved the cool water and sitting in the rapids; like a natural spa. Lots of fish that don’t mind the people wading in the water. Highly recommend. (Go in morning or late afternoon; not crowded)

Hidden gem
We really enjoyed the 20 minute hike down to the beautiful natural pool surrounded by rocky rapids. It was a pleasant hike and a peaceful cool swim. And it was free! There is parking on the side of the road for 6-10 cars. There is no parking lot.

About a 20 minute walk off the road. Within seconds you are deep into the rainforest. It’s even relatively sheltered in the rain with the trees. Well maintained trail that made it fine for our 8-year-old. Great payoff is a river swimming hole. Perfect.

We stopped here after hiking el Yunque. Easy hike. Beautiful quiet swimming area. Fun for kids, across the river is a swing rope. Beautiful setting and lots of fish swimming along with you.

Easy trail ending at river with rope swing

Easy trail to do with kids. Ends at the river. Go early for parking because locals go and spend the entire day - and you can too.

Awesome natural swimming pool

My family of 5 (3 kids ages 13,10, and 3) were able to hike down the half mile trail to the river and the natural swimming pool. The path was clear and well traveled. The little one needed some help when he got tired. It was an absolutely beautiful trail that took us straight to a large fresh water swimming hole with lots of rocks to hang out on. There was even a rope tied to a tree to swing from into the water. There were a good number of people there when we went on a Wednesday but it didn't feel too overcrowded. We stayed about an hour or so and then walked back to the car to drive to Coca falls and the observation tower. If you go, we highly recommend you stop at the roadside restaurants for pinchos, alcapurria, and coco frios!

Great swimming hole

Walk this short trail (about 15 minutes one way) to a great swimming hole.

The trail is located on Road 988, which is a left turn just a little after El Portal Visitors center on Road 191. There is a trail head sign. You will find the trail on the right side of the road. There is no designated parking area. Just pull off to either side of the road.

No fee to enter the rainforest (El Yunque). El Yunque is open daily 7:30am until 6:00pm. For more information visit their site: fs.usda.gov/main/elyunqu….

Flash flood

If it has rained be very careful.

It was sunny but had rained up the mountain apparently. A flash flood came rushing down. Water was crystal clear and all of a sudden brown rushing water. It swept 2 girls downstream and one girl was stranded for hours. A group of us made a chain out of towels to save her.

Park ranger showed up and did nothing. Nothing.

It was a harrowing experience so be aware

It was beautiful and then dangerous.

Great Easy Trail with Surprise at End

The Angelito trail is a relatively short hike (15-20 minutes) that will take you over to a little river which has an awesome swimming hole in it. You can swim in a cool little spot in a clear river (with fish) surrounded by large rocks and a rain forest with great views. It's really cool. The walk is easy compared to other trails and the path is very solid. This attraction doesn't seem to be as popular/known as the others in the National Forest, so that's a plus.

We were able to swim in the lagoon. We were swinging off a rope. There were actual fish in the pond.

Great pool

Had a wonderful afternoon swimming in this watering hole. It is a short hike and you need to cross through large rocks to get to it the bridge is out. Wouldn't recommend iit for the elderly. I would suggest wearing suggest wearing swim shoes. Lots of rocks. It is a beautiful place to spend the day

Amazingly lovely place!!!

It’s a natural pond meaning you can find anything here from nice friendly fish to apparently mongoose (never heard of a similar story in my life! 😳😬... no Pictures of the bite... 🧐). Then again I read about the flash floods and that I can believe because nature is nature... ask around the neighborhood to see if it has rained in the last couple of days if you intend to go in the water. Flash floods can happen and they are dangerous. Make sure to bring some food and water to enjoy the view while you eat some typical “lechón asado!” 😋😋
