The majority of the museum is actually closed, because apparently the building still hasn't been deemed safe by FEMA engineers. But Ronald met us at the door, and although, at first, we really didn't want a guide, I'm glad we stuck with him. He was a fountain of information about the history of Ponce, and all of Puerto Rico. So much more interesting than I thought it would be. Ronald was a pleasure to talk to. Well worth the time spent, even though most of the exhibits were not accessible.

I suspect you can learn everything there is to know about Ponce at the Museum of the History of Ponce. Unfortunately, all of the information is in Spanish, although there is an English brochure that gives you an overview and you don't need an interpreter to enjoy many of the historic photographs. The building itself is also very interesting and it is worth visiting just to see that.

We stopped in here on a Friday early afternoon. We were the only people there. We were warmly greeted by a friendly employee and also engaged in a nice discussion with another friendly employee on the way out. It was very warm inside. Since all of the information was (of course) written in Spanish, we were able to look at different pictures rather than being able to read everything. There was also a public restroom onsite, which we both used.

Make sure if you visit one museum in Ponce it is this one! We learned more about the city and its history during our visit than we had in anything we had read the previous week. Best part? It's in an historic mansion and you can imagine the family living here when you stop and look around. Excellent displays. I only wish more information was available in English as some of the more technical Spanish words I just don't know. Staff are helpful and eager to assist and point out things you may miss, so do avail yourself of their services.

We came upon this museum quite by accident. Initially, we thought it would be a great way to kill a couple of hours from the searing heat. In actuality, it was a wonderful trip through history. We had a personal tour in English and at no cost by the curators of this museum and its neighbor which focuses on the landslide that hit Ponce in 1985. Both guides were very proud of the history of the area and Ponce's impact on both politics and the arts. The museum is a lovingly restored house of a doctor who lived in the area. Go just to see how "the other half" lived in the early part of the 20th century. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the history. We loved it! So very interesting. Don't miss this trip through history!

My wife and I both seniors visited here on a recent Caribbean cruise. Originally we were going to just stay on the ship but decided to take cab into town $10. and we are glad we did. very few cruise ships stop here and the town came out in force to entertain and welcome us. this little museum provides a good overview of Puerto Rican history. a little knowledge of Spanish helps -very little English. interesting displays including one on the Ponce massacre in which 28 people were killed and 200 injured by american authorities check it out in Wikipedia before you go. gives a little insight into why there was a independence movement and why resentment continues today.

On a class roadtrip to Ponce, we made our first stop of the day here. We were greeted by the tourist guide who was so helpful. We received a completed interesting tour of the house/museum. Very complete history of how PR and Ponce became to be. We were all very impressed and loved the tour. If you want to learn the real history of the Municipality of Ponce, you have to come to this museum.

The museum is quite thorough and is a chance to see an elegant house in town as it was in the early 1900's. The director gave us a personal tour.
