This is a huge fortified structure with a lot of history behind it. Take a bus tour (air conditioned) with a good tour guide to get the most out of the history.

We stumbled on the gate while walking along the city walls on a early Saturday morning. Beautiful entrance into the old city. At 8am in the morning, we had the whole place to ourselves, very cool experience.

Very beautiful area rich in history and a nice place to walk around the Fort el morro. It has a beautiful view of the San Juan bay area.

Leisure stroll with nice view of San Juan Harbor. The are pressure washing Fort's Wall to reveal original wall colors. Good for taking photos of Fort Wall from below and with waves breaking at rock barrier. Also you might be lucky and catch a ship...More

This door offered passage to Spanish dignitaries of the 16th century. Today is a reminder of old times and its influence on today's society.

Good place for pictures and close to all the other attractions in Old San Juan. Might as well take advantage and get the max out of your visit. Just be prepared for walking.

We walked this way after leaving El Morro. It's a nice walk and nice to see the different architecture of the buildings on your way to the gate. You can then walk along the water and get some shade by some nice trees. Comfortable walking...More

Nostalgic and beautiful area to walk and take pictures. Previously opened to cars, this area is now closed and open only to pedestrians. A historic and beautiful part of Old San Juan.

I'm a big history person and places that once had gates and walls for protection always have an interesting history. The San Juan Gate has been kept in great shape, which looks nice. The walls and lookouts around the area shows you the intimidating welcome...More

See my review of Old San Juan. Step back in time and see Old San Juan as a 17th century explorer. Scenic views.

No tickets required! Only for the fortresses and they are cheap. The beaches are good and you can do as you like. Pretty safe IMHO.
