In doing the San Juan walk this gate is a must see. Then to continue on the walkway along the ocean was very pleasant

Great place to sit, take in the views and rest a bit while touring Old San Juan. Incredible to learn the history behind the gates and to think of all the people who have passed through them. Perfect Picture Spot!

I have been to the Gate several times. Most frequently, I travel along the Passea de la Princessa and through the gate to Old San Juan. I believe that this is the last standing gate entrance into the old city and it is certainly worth...More

Cars are no longer allowed to drive through here , but there is a beautiful paved walk all around the bottom of the old walls , including a walk through the gate.

Do I have to purchase tickets for these sites? If so would you recommend a tour or just buy the tickets and stroll around myself? Also are the beaches open 24/7. Might be a dumb question but I never got to see the beach at night in New York.

No tickets required! Only for the fortresses and they are cheap. The beaches are good and you can do as you like. Pretty safe IMHO.
