About
Just a 20-minute drive from the airport, Pinones is a bustling coastal area with amazing scenery, beaches, and food—a great pitstop right after you land or before you leave. Try local Puerto Rican food from the snack shacks and bars that line the streets. Grab your food and head to a nearby beach for a picnic, and then hop on a bike or stroll along the boardwalk. Visit on the weekend, as many of the food kiosks aren’t open on weekdays. Parking can sometimes be a challenge, so opt for public transportation or a private guided tour. – Tripadvisor

- Tiffany A10 contributionsStunning beaches, fantastic food in PiñonesGreat variety of food places and gorgeous beaches! Definitely a little more run down that I expected though. Also the “boardwalk” has taken a beating and is in desperate need of repair. Still worth a visit!!Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 February 2024
- aislinnovBoston, Massachusetts3 contributionsGreat vibes!I loved the vibes here! I went on a holiday so it was really packed - I recommend Uber if it is a holiday or weekday because parking is limited. The food options were great, the beaches were beautiful, and it felt like an authentic Puerto Rican experience. Definitely recommend!Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 February 2024
- Lovevacations12Baltimore, Maryland71 contributionsBest snorkeling from beachDefinitely worth a visit to this beach if you’re looking for a calm area to snorkel or swim with family and kids. Because of the way the reef creates a swimming pool like area to protect against the rough waters allow for great snorkeling along the reef area as well as swimming. The day we went only 2 food stand was open but was able to try all the local foods for less than $20. Amazing value! You can rent chairs and umbrella. Bring your own snorkeling and enjoy snorkeling from the beach. I tried the Escambron reserve and minus the shower facilities there, would definitely return to Pinones for the beach!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 March 2024
- Cordula D5 contributionsBeautiful deserted beach, lots of trash in mangroves where people park and picnic.Beautiful deserted beach. Park right on the beach on sandy trail/road. Did not swim here since it looked like rip tides. We walked and relaxed in the sand. Zero tourists. Unfortunately there is tons of trash in the mangroves. If you can look past that, the natural beauty of this beach is not to be missed. We spent about and hour walking along Pinones. We continued on to Luquillo for swimming afterwards.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 July 2024

Pinones was a great last stop on our Puerto Rico trip. We wanted to take it easy on our final day, so we got to the beach, parked, grabbed some alcapurrias, pastelillos, and bacalaitos and made our way to the beach. There was a sandbar blocking the waves so the water was nice, calm, and so blue! It was easy to rent chairs and umbrellas (20 total for 2 people).

The town needs to clean this place up. Trash everywhere I thought it would of cleaned up from the time I was there 2yrs ago. But it’s worse and the smell was horrendous. We actually had to run to our car and get away from the beach side. That’s how bad it was
We did drive down and the smell faded and we were able to find a decent restaurant to eat. The food was good.

Hubby and I spent two wonderful days hanging out in Pinones. We took an Uber from Condado, which was about a 15 minute ride for $8 one way.
The beach is absolutely beautiful! I took so many pics. The food kiosks are yummy and the drinks (we ate at several) were perfect!

This area of PR is much more rural than Old San Juan and greater San Juan. There are several beaches, lots of restaurants and lush scenery. I wish I had gotten to spend more time there so I could have seen more.

We rented bikes and drove them through Pinones and the scenery is incredible along the boardwalk. On the weekend, the streets are jam packed with people visiting the restaurants that dot the roadway. There are also some reef barriered beaches further along which is great for those with kids.

Do yourself a favor and take the ride into pinones. If your off season do it on the weekend as most kiosks will be closed.
Bike rental. There is a place called copi the woman is really unfriendly and the bikes suck (lack of better word) but the trail is amazing. Gorgeous views. Bring bug spray. A lot of it. Watch out for the busted parts of the boardwalk.
The area seemed safe at all times I was there and I had no worries. No Uber signals so you do have to walk (a little) out towards San Juan which also was fairly safe (there’s a path) and we stopped at the ocean lab brewery for a beer and a bite before walking the rest of the way into San Juan. Our preference, we enjoyed the walk . You may not if you don’t like long walks.
Beach is beautiful but not swimable IMO a little rough, and no one was in the water.
Food. Lots of fried foods.

The beach is beautiful but the ocean here has high waves and a strong current so not recommended for swimming. But, it’s definitely a gathering place for the local community with lots of great vibes, music, fun and food. It’s a great place to see and be seen and I highly recommend stopping by.

PIN̈ONES SURE HAS CHANGED...speaking strictly as stateside Puerto Rican I couldn't help but notice that grime and filth now passes for local charm and authenticity. years ago this place was awesome 👌 now...forget it. you're all better off taking your money somewhere else as the so called locals..live up to bad stereotypes. especially in Donde Olga Restaurant...they don't grasp the concept of money going where it's appreciated. there are countless places in Puerto Rico where you can spend your money to eat, relax and enjoy life..maybe the next hurricane will refresh their memory

Does anyone know what time the food vendors generally open on Sundays? We are leaving San Juan to drive to El Yunque (and then on to Fajardo) on a Sunday morning, and want to stop for an early lunch in Pinones, but I'm afraid it might be dead at that time!
Written 12 February 2020
They are usually open by 11 a.m., not too many crowds but they are serving food and drinks.

How long of a walk is it from the start of the boardwalk to the mangrove forest?
Written 16 January 2020
That is true. Just past the main strip is a nice beach!

Is Pinones open every day of the week??
Written 7 April 2019
Hi, Tiffany. What would you like to know about this attraction?
We are visiting Puerto Rico next week and I was wondering if it's easy to get an uber to and from Pinones. I've read in some places that it's easy to get there but difficult to get back. We will be in Isla Verde.

Is there bike paths. I don’t like to ride in traffic. Thanks.

Ummm. In the beginning heading towards piñones there’s a sidewalk. This is in the tourist section. Beyond that there’s non. Sometimes there’s a sidewalk but then it closes and there’s only grass and sand.
