Absolutely gorgeous. We walked quite a way up with our guide, strongly recommend water shoes if you’re sensitive about stepping on rocks. On our drive in, a few people stopped our car to try get us to go with them to the “locals” pools rather than the “government” pools: saying there are 8 local pools and only one government pool. We went the official route as we were not sure about the locals, and the pools were spectacular and plenty to see - we don’t feel like we missed out.

My experience at Reach Falls with Dorian was nothing short of amazing! We were fortunate to meet him on our way and decided to take the non-touristy route up from the bottom of the falls. Dorian’s local expertise added a unique touch to our journey, making it more than just a typical tourist visit. The unconventional route involved walking through pools and swimming upstream, providing a refreshing and immersive experience. The ease of the trek made it accessible for all, and the scenic beauty along the way was breathtaking. Dorian’s knowledge of the area enriched our exploration, sharing insights that we wouldn’t have discovered on our own.

As you approach Reach falls there are a lot of local guides. We decided to use a well mannered guide called Dorian. They charge the same as the official entry fee with the proceeds going to the community. We had a wonderful hour climbing up through numerous pools and small falls with Dorian showing us exactly where to step while taking photos of us and pointing out interesting things. A great trip. We got there early so we were pretty much the only ones there. The entrance area includes very clean and well kept bathroom/changing booths. There is a bit of a walk to the falls themselves, all down hill on the way there and of course therefore, uphill on the way back. My 90 year old dad couldn’t make it but he spent a lovely time with the staff at the entrance area. Meanwhile, we arrived at the main pool area (which is very secure) to meet a guide who walked us up, through a section of the waterfall itself via deep and shallow pools then back down via a very short underwater cave and a couple of optional jumps. One of our party was a non-swimmer but still managed to join in, in the water. It was an exhilarating experience for me, a breathtakingly beautiful place and we all had a great time. If you visit Portland during an extremely rainy time, you may find the Falls are closed due to the quantity of water passing through the Falls - do check in advance. Highly recommend!
