Fort Napoleon stands high above the port of Le Bourg in Les Saintes and has been turned into an art and cultural museum. There is little of military history on display except for a few cannons. The gardens surrounding the fort offer some floral displays, but it is the view of the bay and Caribbean Sea that are most striking.

It is about a 20 min walk steep uphill, but nice views along the way. Entry is 5 euro, and they have toilets. Interesting museum with many exhibits, mostly with French explanations.

There is so much history on this island. Fort Napoleon does not disappoint. Set up for tourism very well, we enjoyed touring here. They also have rum and food tasting on some of the tours. It is quite good. Make sure you walk around the garden areas as the views are spectacular.

The fort is intact and has been turned into a museum, each room with items from a different theme such as art, fish, battles, boatbuilding, wildlife. Outside is a botanic garden. Take the mini-bus and you will get an hour here, which is enough.

It is quite an uphill walk from the ferry dock to the fort but it was definitely worth it! The views are amazing and the fort was pretty and interesting too. It closes around 11 or 12 so be sure to go in the morning hours.

The walk up to Fort Napoleon from the main street isn't too far (about 10 minutes), but the climb does get a little steep. However, once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views of the water. There's a small museum inside the remaining fort structure, which is worth having a look at as well. The museum is worth the visit to get to know a little more on the history of the islands. The view from up here is excellent and do not forget to have a juice on the parking: top quality from st francois, guadeloupe.

My husband and I were on a cruise and did this tour. I have a foot injury but I was told that i could manage to handle the walking. We were driven up to the fort so I only had to climb one incline on a paved surface. It seems that a lot of people walk up the hill from... More

We have been to many forts. This is a top notch visit. Views, gardens, architecture, museum. The ship models and art are particularly interesting. All of the information is in French, so English speakers will need to go online for details about the history and artifacts.

A very nicely restored fort on the top of a hill, a stiff climb from the town. Fabulous views and a nice collection of cacti in the grounds. Inside the fort there are excellent displays of the local flora and fauna and a lovely, if surprising given usual French sensitivities, series of displays explaining the local 1782 naval battle when...
