We used one of the local kayak shops to hire a kayak big enough for our family of four. Hire time was three hours which is just enough. Takes about 15-20 minutes to paddle out and a little longer on the way back if there is an off-shore wind. The island itself is great to snorkel. We tried all the... More

There are lots of different options @ the reserve....this is a very popular dive spot....we took the Nautilus Glass Bottom which was a great value if you are not a scuba diver....the trip lasts 90 minutes & you get 30 minutes to snorkel for about $25 USD...we saw lots of fish & it was great fun with a complimentary rum... Incredibly clear water, amazing coral gardens (the biggest coral ferns I have ever seen), huge amounts of fish and some turtles...what more can you want from a snorkel / dive site :-)

We dive the Caribbean and SE Asia extensively. Pigeon Island is a gem! Yes, there are a lot of dive operators working the reserve, but I haven't experienced the "traffic jam" descriptions in some of the negative reviews. The coral reef and fauna are in excellent condition and the sea life is abundant. Visibility is 30+ meters and the proximity... More

If you are a dive/snorkel aficionado with international experience, and especially if your time is limited, I'd give this one a miss. Beautiful, nice and close to the mainland (maybe 15min by boat?) but not much to see- some beautiful colourful small and medium sized fish, plain green coral, and the statue of Jacques Cousteau is just a really tiny... A protected reserve around Ilet Pigeon has about a billion companies taking divers there basically every hour of the day. We booked ahead but I had the feeling that just coming to the Plage de la Melandure will always end up in success. You will find a lot of booths selling diving lessons, snorkeling trips, kayaking, you name it. While... More

We went snorkeling in the Cousteau Underwater Reserve (Pidgeon Islands) on our trip to Guadeloupe in January 2016. We went on a boat from the mainland to the island, mostly with divers. We were given masks, snorkels, flippers and wetsuits. I was also given special goggles that had correction lenses. I've been snorkeling many times, and this is the first... More

We went on a glass bottom boat, and although the boat was fine, and the staff friendly and helpful, the reserve has been over trafficked so not as lush as expected
