Grand Etang Shoreline is a big part of the National Park, most of the trail is in need of repair. What are supposted to be facilities are deplorable. The water, fona, landscape, birds are all beautiful, all the man made bridges need repairs.

This trail takes you along the borders of a lake that formed in the crater of an extinct volcano. The trail is level and traverses several very small streams, ankle deep and is approximately 4.5 km in length.
What makes this an amazing experience is the mud. Seriously. You will get down and dirty!!! This is in a rain forest and rain = mud. So break out those water shoes and bring a walking stick. It may be slippery, but you will be rewarded with sites of Mona monkeys in the trees above and massive bamboo thickets, as well as lush forest canopy all about you. We walked this trail the day after Valentine's Day and some Grenadian Romeo had lined a good portion of the trail with hibiscus blossoms.
Highly recommended for couples and families, don't just stop and stare at the lake, get off the pier and walk the trail.

We visited the park in late October, 2011, and were disappointment to find the trail around the lake in a state of nearly-impassable neglect. It was completely overgrown, with 2” deep mud right from the trailhead leaving the parking area (wear good waterproof hiking shoes). Saw grass overhangs the trail in many places, and left our calves dripping blood from multiple horizontal paper-cut lacerations (wear long pants). My wife picked up some poison ivy-like rash on her forearm. We encountered all this during the first ten minutes walk from the car, before we decided that it was just not going to be a pleasant hike and turned back.
The lake itself was pretty (from the parking area), but not worth the $17 admission they charged us at the gate. The surrounding areas that can be viewed from the road were pretty, with rugged mountains and lush foliage.
All in all, a likely low point in an otherwise delightful trip to Grenada.

This trail is part of the Grand Etang Forest Reserve. But you can enter from either the road or from the lake. The trail goes all the way around the lake and is full of vegetation, water and life. Some parts where there is a small pool the bridge/walkover is broken down. If the water is dried up you can just walk through, however, if it’s the rainy season and there’s a lot if water, it’ll be a challenge getting across without getting you feet submerged in muddy water. In any event be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
There’s a chance you might see some monkeys, you can feed them with fruits if you have.
The weather is very cool in this area so much of the time you’ll be shaded from the sun. Do bring along sufficient water, though.
The trail is pretty straight forward, so you’ll be able to find your way back. It was very enjoyable to be walking and sometimes climbing through nature. So refreshing!
Recommended for all those nature lovers.

My husband and I had the pleasure of having a personal tour guide (his name was Lennox) take us through the Grand Etang National Park during an unforgettable trip on our honeymoon.
Our first stop was the Grand Etang Lake, which has tilapia in it and he showed us how to hand fish using a little piece of bread while lying down on the dock. A very fun experience!
Next we started walking the trails and along the way Lennox stopped and pointed out all of the local spices and fruits growing and he encouraged us to use all of our senses-tasting, touching, hearing, etc. We both wore sneakers which I would highly recommend since the trails have some steep and uneven sections, and Lennox also encouraged us to use walking sticks which came in very handy! We also wore bathing suits and packed water shoes so that way we could swim in the waterfalls there, which are part of the Seven Sisters Falls. We got to see 3 of the 7 waterfalls and Lennox took us up a steep section (we even had to scale up the waterfall) to reach a private waterfall that was heart-shaped and called "Honeymooners Fall" which was an amazing and romantic experience!
I highly recommend doing this while visiting Grenada-be prepared to get a little dirty, have a good workout (pack water & granola bar!) and have an amazing and peaceful experience!

steep trails, very cool, with plenty green trees. love to hear the crackling of the monkeys and looking at the clear sky and the large body of water beneath - the lake surrounded by the green grass and the fishes swmming.

Beautiful! Lush, green, easy hike, birds, lots to see! Can be muddy in areas, so wear appropriate shoes. Also, bug repellent is necessary. Worth the hike.

The trail is level and the guides are well prepared with info about the wildlife all around. BUT and it's a serious 'but' - maintenance of the trails is minimal. Many of the bridges are ramshackle - the missing planks, rotting timbers and protruding nails don't inspire confidence. Strong shoes with non-slip soles are essential. At times you will be more than ankle deep on long wet grass.
With a good guide it's interesting, but go by yourself and you'll probably wonder why you bothered. It's also not cheap at us$60 per person for a 90 minute trek.

This trail should be one of the easiest and most accessible in Grand Etang but the deplorable state of the wooden bridges over stream crossings potentially make it dangerous - rotten wood which will collapse when stepped on and nails sticking out. The alternative is to wade through mud and water - ok if you don't mind this experience but you will emerge coated in mud. Definitely not recommended if you don't like slipping and sliding and getting messy!
