We wandered over from our resort at Grand Samana - far right end of the beach will lead you to a wide open path area, through the feeding fields of the local horses, keep hugging the ocean. Keeping the coral beach are on your left, circle around and you'll begin to hear its roar. Naturally the heavier the surf the more you will see and hear.
Basically a rush of water through the cracks in the waters edge - we visited twice once when the water gushed up and out more than five feet high and another when it was merely pressurized vapors that rushed out.
Look out to the point and you'll see a large outcrop rock - from the blowhole it is just a jutting rock. However, if you meander thru the brush (there is a trail) another 50 yards to the next cove and look back out you'll see the jutting rock appears to be a Sea Serpent with its mouth agape. Very Cool

Such a shame to have to report negatively on a place that is such a beautiful drive and awesome location. Between the drive alongside the cliffs, the marble mine, caves and the boca del diablo it really is an amazing place.

That being said, and I hate to put a stain on the local economy and many good people that do live and work there, but it is not currently a place you should go visit.

The road is a one-way road going in and some friends of mine went on an ATV tour there and were met by a group of 3 masked men with machetes waiting for them when they returned from Boca Del Diablo. They had knocked a tree down in the middle of the road and robbed them of many precious belongings.

It's such a bummer that such cowards are hurting the tourism and local economy there, the reasoning behind my 5 star rating is that I hope that eventually the police can get involved and make the area a safe place to visit for everyone. But for now I would advise avoiding this place altogether unless you are armed with a firearm and traveling in a closed vehicle. Otherwise you should stay away for now.

I{ ve been many years ago..But recently I´ve heard few stories of robberies around Boca del Diablo...Cause, it´s a path, the youbg guys, check you people go throgh..by car..or quad..
So, they know, you need to pass for this same path to go back to the highway..they put a tree in the middle, to force you to stop..and ask for money..
My recomendation (as a dominican), is to go there if a mininum..basic..500-1000 pesos..No phones, no documents..nothing valuable...Put the money safe..and maybe, give them a couple of bucks...
Or, tell to any dominican to go with you..if you know someone from Samaná o Las Galeras..and offer few pesos...
I hope it helps...
It+s a really nice place!!

My boyfriend and I travelled by scooter to see Boca del Diablo in December 2015. We made our way back after seeing the site and buying some souvenirs from the lady, close to half way we were stopped by two machete bearing men wearing t-shirts over their heads to hide. They robbed us of many of our belongings and money. It was a very scary event and I feel lucky to have only lost a few belongings. I would not recommend to anyone to travel by scooter, and to be honest, I would actually avoid this trip altogether after all the incidents I have read about.
Safe travels.

We were on an ATV tour, and asked the guides to make the side trip to the Boca el Diablo after reading all the reviews. There are stunning views to be had, and there were creepy sounds coming from the mouth, but there was no water shooting out. The guide described what usually happened when it was blowing, but we were very disappointed to find we should have checked the ocean conditions first. If we go back, I will definitely try to see it again, but with some planning.

Note to parents: there is nothing keeping you from going right up to the hole, and I almost fell in, because you can't see it until you are right on top of it. Watch where you step.

First, a caveat. We didn't actually make it to Boca del Diablo, so I can tell you nothing about the actual attraction. What I can tell you is that soon after we turned off onto the dirt road, we were stopped by heavily armed police (not an abnormal sight) who stated that it wasn't safe to proceed without them. They then proceeded to follow us on motorbike. Once the road got too rough for our little white Kia rental, we pulled off by the mine and planned to walk the last quarter mile. The police officers then again told us that it wasn't safe and offered to take us one by one to the site on their motorcycle. At this point, we decided that if we had to split up and be escorted by armed guides, that it was no longer worth whatever waited for us at the end of the road.

We had a great time here. We had our own jeep so it was easy for us to drive to it. The road is not marked at all so you need to ask where it is. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes after turning off the main road to drive to where the geological blow hole is. The road gets a little bumpy, watery, and overgrown towards the end. You will pass a marble mine on the left with huge blocks of marble sitting out. There's also cliffs on your left. Once you get there (it's on the right) there is a family that has a little stand selling gifts. She will show you the blow hole and then take you on a little hike too. I recommend doing this and then tipping her. We had a great time hiking around and exploring. Be sure to where good shoes because the rocks are very pointy and sharp. The views are awesome and there's nobody there. Worth the trip.

From site descriptions it might sound like magnificent place to visit, but in reality it is pretty average rocky ocean side place. We dove by a car and for unexperienced drivers it can be a huge challenge to get there. Yes, you can hear a roar from the hole and some vapour, but that's it. In addition it seems to be not safe for tourists, as we were accompanied by CESTUR (armed tourism police) who explained that no one should not go there by themselves.

I have to admit that when I heard of Boca del diablo I wasn't that excited. I've seen cool rock formations where the water shoots up when the waves come in, ok. This site was en route to Playa Fronton so it was no big commitment. We went on motoconcho from our hotel (Chalet Tropical) with their resident guide. I'd also recommend the rest of the tour, we walked from Boca del Diablo through the jungle to Playa Fronton and our guide picked out all the jungle foods we could eat and we ate them. We had coconut at 3 different phases of development, I'd never had manzana de coco before. Anyway, the Boca is so cool. Not only does air come shooting up out of the crevice (enough to blow my hat off my head and 15 feet away, but it makes a crazy sound. We were there on a pretty calm day, I can't imagine how crazy it gets when the sea is rough. After the beach we hiked back to Las Galeras, it was a steep start and a long walk (complete with mangos, papaya, and passion fruit). It was a great and exhausting day.
