About
Punta Espada Golf Course is already listed among the worlds finest, with the renowned GolfWeek ranking it as the best golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico. Eight holes play along and over the sea. From all points of Punta Espada, golfers are blessed with extraordinary views of the Caribbean, where the sea contrasts against the emerald fairways and the perfect greens. Challenging stroke play and beauty are entwined in this outstanding par 72 course, which hosted the inaugural PGA Tour’s Champions Tour in April 2008 - The Cap Cana Championship. The annual tournament is televised internationally through the Golf Channel and its license-holding subsidiaries.

Must play golf course! Best golf experience ever!
Aug 2021
For those thinking of golfing while at Secreta cap Cana, here are some pics of Punta Espada.

15 minute ride to the course. Rental clubs were titlest and in ok shape. Warming up two guys were watching me struggle with the 9.5 degree driver - said not the right club and went to get me a 10.5. Great service. Bag was missing the 4 and 5 iron but they brought them
Out to me on the course.

Let’s talk caddie. He insisted we play from the tips or one less on holes 1, 2 and 17….you will understand when you see the views. He also gave advice off tees, had a watch for distance to front and pin, and made club recommendations. He read greens with and for you which was fantastic…I need that at home!

Fairways were excellent. Greens had been plugged about two weeks earlier so we’re still pretty slow.

Likely the best golf experience ever for me and that comes having played Mayakoba in Mexico in May. My recommendation is find someone to go with. I met Gary at the resort and we both agree playing as a pair was much better than solo. I got to high five his eagle chip in from 85 out and he got to help me celebrate the birdie on 17.

Beautiful course! Wonderfully maintained. The staff were great and my caddie, Eddie, made the day fun and helped me tremendously. Bring a few extra balls…

Beautiful Afternoon at Punta Espada
Jun 2021
Was fortunate to play Punta Espada last week. They arranged for a driver to pick us up at our resort (Sanctuary Cap Cana) at no additional cost. The course was EMPTY! Only a few other groups out there. We played behind a retired MLB all star. The greens fees were not cheap, but the property is well worth the cost. We rented clubs, as I would recommend you do as well. The bunkers and waste areas are a bit rocky and will ruin a good set of irons. The rental sets could use to be updated as they were a bit beat up with old grips, not great with sweaty hands. (Titleist AP1 irons, approx. 5 years old)

The course was extremely playable, even in the high wind. The course conditions were excellent, and we tend to have high standards as our home club is impeccable. The women in the pro shop were cheerful and eager to help. The clubhouse was beautiful and locker rooms has Sun Bum sunscreen (our favorite).

Our caddie, Armando, was fantastic and made us feel at home. He was quick to recommend a line or cheer on a great shot. "BUENO BALLO!!!"

We highly recommend this course if you are in the area. No mystery as to why Golf magazine has it listed as the #18 Top Course You can Play!

Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing you again!

Great views but missed some details
Jun 2021 • Friends
Played as a single on a Friday afternoon and played in less than two hours. Ran into two other groups and they let me play through.

Jorge was my caddie and we got along well, he did a good job giving me numbers and course advice.

The views on the course are spectacular! 8 holes border the ocean and provide some great golf holes.

The back 9 was punched a few weeks ago and I was not I formed of this before hand and there were many dead spots in the fairways with little to no grass. There was no change in the price to reflect playing conditions.

I also paid $65 for rental clubs and was disappointed with 5 year old titleists with grips that felt like they have never been changed. The Scottie Cameron putter grip was atrocious.

They bill themselves as the #1 course in the Caribbean and I understand that course maintenance is a must but give your guests a heads up. And while the rentals are a bit dated, keeping up with decent grips is not difficult or expensive.

Beautiful scenic course
May 2021
My husband was eager to play this course while we were at a nearby resort. I tagged along for the views and was not disappointed. He thoroughly enjoyed playing the course with the assistance of the best caddy (who knew the course like the back of his hand). The course itself was beautiful, especially the greens against the ocean. I would highly recommend to any golfer, no matter their level. Don’t pass up the chance to play or pay a visit to this course.

Paradise for golf

I love to play golf, so i decided to visit this course. Videos and images thru the internet doesn’t make any justice to this jewel. You don’t know if you want to play or just admire the beauty. It’s a really challenging course, but if you get Gilberto as a caddy you will be in good hands. Hope i can play there again..

Spectacular condition, perfect fairways and greens, gorgeous views and fair layout. The course by itself is not that challenging unless playing the tips with the regular wind in your face on 14 of the 18 holes then straight 230 yd drives in the wind are a must to score. Other tees are more forgiving for windy days. The par 3 250yds over the ocean with wind at your back is insane, tough to stop a ball on the target green with a 3 wood. Greens are amazing, a bit slow but true. Apeed of play is awesome took me less than 2 hours for 18 holes with caddy running. Price is high but its worth it for the bucket list. Cap Cana is an amazing place and very well designed. This is top class golf in an outstanding area.

Loved the Layout...Hated the Waste Bunkers
Jan 2020
You really have to applaude the genius of Jack Nicklaus with this layout! The only reason this didn't get a 5 is because someone chose to use this coral rock in the waste bunkers and off the fairway which is tough to hit out of and messes up your high dollar irons!

Dear Tim, We appreciate your feedback. The original golf course design included coral gravel waste area. The coral gravel is a soft rock, softer than the iron of the club and therefore no marks are left on clubs when hitting from these areas. Even so, we do understand that this may not be the impression it provides and it is something we are looking into and evaluating adding sand to areas that are more directly in play. Thank you, Punta Espada Team

Memorable holes
Jan 2020
The course is a great design a lot of risk reward holes. Stunning visuals. Great condition. The only complaint I have is that on a course where you are paying 300-400 dollars your caddie should have a range finder. The distant markers are only every 50 yards and no markings on the sprinkler heads.
