About
Punta Espada Golf Course is already listed among the worlds finest, with the renowned GolfWeek ranking it as the best golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico. Eight holes play along and over the sea. From all points of Punta Espada, golfers are blessed with extraordinary views of the Caribbean, where the sea contrasts against the emerald fairways and the perfect greens. Challenging stroke play and beauty are entwined in this outstanding par 72 course, which hosted the inaugural PGA Tour’s Champions Tour in April 2008 - The Cap Cana Championship. The annual tournament is televised internationally through the Golf Channel and its license-holding subsidiaries.

Beautiful golf course with multiple holes on the ocean - I have played in Hawaii, California and Florida - may be one of the best ocean courses ever built. There are some areas for improvement as several greens need some work but the course is beautiful and fun to play. Now keep in mind it is expensive but worth it atleast once. Make sure to pick the right tees as the constant ocean breeze impacts every hole. It is a beautiful Jack Nicklaus design with great bunkering and small greens considering the wind and they are firm. While the conditions dictate the firmness - firing at the pin is not an option. The caddies can be hit or miss but I had Norman on my first round - fantastic caddie as good as I have had - request Norman as your caddie. They do supply lots of water and the food is not bad, not expensive but delivery is slow. While they could work on a couple of the greens it is a great course - beautiful - challenging - if you want to challenge your shot making and feel good when you park a hole, let alone a birdie - Punta Espada is a must - beautiful course

I’ll start with I have played 70 of the top US courses and 30 of the top 70 non US in the world! This is the best course I have ever played, over Pine Valley, Cabot, Scotland, Bandon, Cypress, Merion, name it I have played it! The views are unreal, the course is in perfect conditions, forget Teeth, Coralas this is the one you want to play! Caddies name was Martin, fantastic guy and caddie knew the course like the back of his hand! Buy the multi round package, one will not be enough!

The golf course is definitely a 5 star course but the service was trash. There was a miscommunication with our food order and the staff just said “we were wrong” and refused to help us make it right. Definitely a language barrier here. The caddy came off rude and provided more
Guidance than was welcomed. We wanted to just have a good time and drink. We’re weren’t playing competitively. The course marshal came out and rushed us. After spending $400 to play this course we overall felt like the service was not up to par. And we unfortunately would not recommend this course.

Beautiful course ectacular views. However I played at 1236 and the round took 5 hours and half hours. After the first nine holes I called the pro shop and they did nothing. The folks who manage this course need to understand that if you are paying for a top course you cannot allow the pace of play to be that slow. When I finished the round I asked to speak with the manager and they told me he was not available. I hope if I get back to this beautiful course they will have learned to be responsible to keep the pace of play to a max of 4.5 hours at most

Let’s start by the golf course itself. 8 holes on the water and each is just incredible. The course is a resort course but still plenty challenging. A lot of fun for a top golf course hunter like me.
There are endless photo opportunities, more so than any course including Pebble if you ask me.
“D” our caddie was great, he was friendly and super helpful. We tipped $100 for the two of us.
The clubhouse is definitely lacking any vibe though. No real hang there and not a place you will sit post round.
Overall just a great experience though including the cab ride for us included from Secrets Cap Cana.

Best ocean views I have ever seen on a golf course! My caddie Philly was very knowledgeable at reading the greens and fairway placement. It was a breathtaking experience.

Went last December the course was absolutely stunning but my transport to the course was late and ended up not having any time to warm up and that was a big down side for me as I live in Canada and hadn't payed in months so it definitely affected my game but would definitely give them another shot truly a amazing course with awesome staff

What a golf course! What a view. What a design.
Simply a master piece from every tee box! Good conditions. I think just 300,- is way too much. This is something I would not willing to pay normally and to be honest I will not I future. Caddy was like everywhere average and had no idea what a good player need to know but I give 4/5 because it’s a magical place and the best course in this area. (Not played the teeth of the dog yet).

From the moment I stepped on property the service was second to none.. including a courtesy car to and from my hotel to the course.. the staff in pro shop were helpful polite and assisted with all queries about my day, from sourcing me the most suitable hire clubs for my play (scratch golfer) with new Titleist T300, quality Titleist woods and a Scotty putter.. the caddy was polite on introduction and assisted with the range, and clubs while I practiced (on perfect practice facilities).. from the moment I got to first tee to putting out on 18 the experience was awesome.. the course was amazing maintained to an exceptional standard and given I was a single player and teed off at 08.00 there was no one on the course.. the caddy Luiz, was helpful and knowledgeable and was a definite be if it to my experience.. true millionaires golf.. the stretch of holes hugging the coast are some of the best you could play anywhere in the world.. the cost may put some people off but shouldn’t as it truly is a once in a lifetime experience and worth every dollar…

It depends on who books it for you. Seems they have better rates for certain golf booking companies. Whatever the price, its worth it.

What is the best way to book a tee time? Can a non golfer come and tag along for free or a fee?

We also used Ocean Side Golf website to book tee times, and it included transportation. The shuttle was on time and the golf course was great. They call the shuttle when you are ready to go back to your hotel.

I am sorry I cannot answer your question. I would think that the pro shop would have rental clubs available but I am not sure. I hope you have a great trip like we did.
How much to pay for a game of golf in the month of May

It depends on the time of day and if you are staying in Cap Cana. If not staying in Cap Cana, rates are between $175 and $295. That includes taxes, caddy fee, range balls, and bottled water.

I am staying at excellence el carmen- I am reading that the club rentals are pretty bad- is the course nice enough to drop 400 plus clubs to play by myself? is it really a "once in a lifetime" course?

$400 is a lot of money, check Teeoff or Golf Now. I will say this though, if there ever was a course to do it, this one is it!
