My wife and I got in four rounds, saving La Cana for last. We were not disappointed. Beautiful course. Beautifully maintained. Loved our caddy, Antonio, who helped me make almost every putt (when I followed directions correctly). :) Had never played with a caddy and it was totally worth it. We finished it less than four hours as a twosome and let two groups play through as we wanted to enjoy the entire experience. We had four holes that I would consider "on the water", but even those that weren't were beautiful (as were the many amazing houses on this property). We played Tortuga and Arrecife. I would highly recommend adding this to your must play list (I did find a discount on a secondary website that I am fond of using).

What I love about all the courses I played, La Cana, Iberostar, Barcelo Lakes and Cocotal is that they have wide fairways. Holes are still challenging, but it's so much more enjoyable to have some room on your way to the green.

We played LaCana while staying at Dreams Palm Beach in July 2021. The course itself was beautifully maintained. Our package was reasonable through AmStart at Dreams Palm Beach included greens fees, carts, and clubs. I'm left handed and my playing partner in right handed. Scotty Cameron putters and Titliest clubs were a couple years old but in great shape. Open and playable for all levels of golfers. Caddies, at a very reasonable rate plus tip, are required. Domingo was our caddie and he was fantastic. First time with a caddie for me which I felt lower my score by at least 5-6 stroke. Reading puts, selecting appropriate clubs, and giving course layout information really made a difference. Our final two holes were directly along the ocean making for amazing views.

To be clear, the course, the amenities, and staff in general are all in good order. The greens are kept to a high standard, the course is maintained and looked after. It was easy to book via the rep at the hotel and transport was prompt and friendly.

Being a non member a caddy was mandatory, I forget his name but he spoke enough English for us to communicate effectively. He provided a set of clubs of reasonable quality and drove the cart and offered clubs for distances and advice on the greens.

The issue came at the end, the tip...

I had around $35 on me in cash, expecting this to be more than sufficient based on what I had read online. When I handed over his tip and said thank you, he asked how much and I told him, $35, to which he immediately started to complain this was not enough, and told me it should be $50 or more.

I did not have any more cash on me, but this was not a problem for this caddy, he marched me to the other side of the resort to a cash machine, obviously, not his first time and a trip he could probably do blindfolded.

I attempted to withdraw enough cash to pay him so I could finally leave and the machine would not accept my card. I then had to request a cash advance from the villa receptionist, who charged a 12.5% fee.

Once he had his money, only then would he take me back to the clubhouse.

On reflection, I should have stood my ground, but not wanting to get into an altercation with a local is high on my list of no no's when in a foreign country.

It was a bullying tactic by the caddy. My advice, don't fall foul as I did.

The course was an excellent condition but we were not told that a caddy was mandatory for our twosome. That was okay until payment which is required in cash. We weren't told about this earlier, so we didn't have any cash on hand. We had to make a trip to the nearest ATM just to pay the caddy.

Also, the pace of play was terrible. We asked the caddy several times to contact the Marshall as it was turning out to be a five and a half hour round. Marshalls are useless and did nothing to increase pace of play.

I would avoid this course as there are much better in the Dominican. Also, make sure you know the price of the caddy ahead of time as they might try to nickel and dime you by giving you a different rate.

Nice course but crazy expensive. I was initially told by Club Med's golf representative that the cost was $88 per person. With the cart rental and club rental, it ended up being $203 per person. Then we got to the club, and I had to buy 12 balls for $40. And I also learned that we had to have a caddy, and that cost another $40 plus tip. So all in, it was more than $500 for a round of golf. A very unpleasant surprise. That said, the caddy was very nice and the course is in good shape.

Booked this course through Golf Now and saved big, online prices are pretty steep. Played the Hacidenda/Arrecife 9 hole layouts. Course was in pretty good shape for all the play it receives. That being said, the pace of play was absolutely abysmal. There were two groups ahead of us on Arrecife with caddies, and you would think they were all playing for the Masters Championship. I played with my wife as a twosome and the course ran out of caddies, so we were alone with having never played the course. The caddies ahead did absolutely nothing to speed up play of their groups, or allow a twosome to play through. The Arrecife 9 is by far the best, with ocean views at 7-9, Play sped up a bit on Hacienda after a few holes as the previous groups moved to the Tortuga 9, but then slowed again after two holes. A poor playing twosome did allow us to play through after a few holes, but we then caught up with another foursome till the end. There are no rangers that I saw and only saw the beverage cart girl twice. Loved the layout as there are more that a view tee shots and approach shots over water, several with green layouts similar to 17 at Sawgrass. I would definitely recommend this course, especially for the bargain price we payed to play.

My wife and I played here and we had an amazing time! My wife is a Covid golfer and I am an casual one and we have never played with a caddy before. Our caddy Lalo (?) was very patient and attentive. It was like getting a pro with us while we played. My wife, who did not want someone to accompany us on the round, ended up shooting the best game ever. And the course, oh my, was gorgeous. My recommendation: Bring extra balls so your caddy would spend more time with you instead of using it to look for lost balls ;).

We would definitely play here again.

Course was in great shape and the layout was great!! Definitely one of the best tracks in the area. The caddies were great and were fun to play with. Holes 17 and 18 on the Arrecife course are absolutely gorgeous running down the shore of the beach

Played golf course in August 22. I am an average golfer. Booked online: 126 usd plus 30 caddie plus tip 20. Great golf course. Was in better shape than Corales. However 9 holes ocean facing were under renovation so I had to play back nine more inwards of the community. Still everything was perfect and nice. Carlos was a great caddy always giving tips and helping with the putting lines. Really worth the money. Afterwards I went next door to the beach - Playa Blanca. Great beach restaurant with fantastic beach and good food.

While the course was in excellent condition, the best part was without a doubt, my caddie Carlos. Always with a kind word and helping to improve your game. A fantastic time. I played three rounds. One on Sunday, Tuesday and one on Thursday. Carlos is the man.
