About
Bask under the Caribbean sun at Catalina Island, known for its gorgeous white sand beaches surrounded by tropical palm trees. The crystal-clear waters here are home to diverse marine life, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving—you’re bound to spot some tropical fish and even sea urchins if you’re lucky. You can’t stay overnight as the island is part of a nature reserve. Instead, pick a boat tour that will take you there, stopping along the way for snorkeling and sightseeing. Many island hopping tours often include Catalina as a stop, too. – Tripadvisor

Great trip booked with scuba caribe
Booked this through Hilton who uses scuba caribe. It’s a fantastic full day 2 snorkel or 2 scuba trip (I did scuba and my 8-yr old and wife did the snorkel). Was the best part of our entire vacation. Do it!

    Fantastic day out!
We booked online directly through scuba carribe at bayahibe. We’re staying at Hilton Romana, the catamaran picked us up directly from the beach at the hotel. Fernando and his crew were amazing …. plenty of room in the boat, free soft drinks before snorkelling and plenty of rum after! Crisps as snacks morning and on our return. 2 snorkelling stops, safety being key with the team looking after us very well in the sea. Then Catalina isl for about 2.5 hrs ….. time to swim, lunch (pasta/sauce, grilled chicken/pork, rice, fruit), drinks and to look at gift shops. There are sun beds and shade under trees. It is a stunning island. Returned via a river tour, back by about 4pm ish. Was thoroughly enjoyable and can’t thank Fernando and his team enough for looking after us all so well!

    Simply breathtaking
Book the excursion with Expedia from the company named Passion Paradise Adventures. Pick up and drop off was easy. The whole excursion was great except for me hitting my leg getting on the boat which left a nasty bruise but I was fine after about 4 days. Pedro was amazing with great customer service I recommend this day trip and if you are in La Romana check it out!

We were sold a tour, 40 mins drive to and from Romana. Told us all food and drinks on the Catamaran were included. Snorkeling 1 hour and then off to a sand bank to swim in the water. Then lunch at the island, again buffet and drinks included. After a 3 hour stay back on the Catamaran for the ride back to Romana with all food and drinks included.

What we got!!!
2.5 hours to get to Romana.( transfer bus in Punta Cana )
On the Catamaran only still water from a cooler, coke and sprite. Sandwiches of what was one piece of mystery meat, a slice of cheese with ketchup between two slices of bread. 5 pieces of fruit on a stick each. No beer or alcohol before the snorkeling as a safety rule. I agree.
After I finish my snorkeling ( very disappointing spot, have done this in Cuba and Mexico ) I asked for a beer and was told no beer on the boat, had to wait for the lunch on the island.
Got to the island and waited one hour before getting lunch, it was ok. Beer available from 1pm only and they ran out at 1.25pm.
Beach chairs were filthy and in very bad condition.
Beach vendors for sure, but nothing worth spending money on.
The boss running the show on the boat and the buffet etc was not very helpful and rude. Did all he could to maximize the profit by not providing a decent bar and food on the boat.
On the way back our bus broke down, happens.
another 2.5 hours back to the hotel.
Name on the bus was Doca tours rd.

Run away and save your money!!.

We took a private boat tour for our wedding party and did some snorkeling around Catalina Island. This was my second time and I loved it!!

There are nice washrooms on the island, a nature walk and amazing water to swim in!

We booked a full day snorkeling tour at Catalina island from SoulTour in Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine. The tour agent promised all inclusive trip to island for staying for whole day, from start at 7.25am at hotel and back 6pm. He said it 40min from port to island. What he did not said that it's 3.5 hours drive to port, picking peoples from other hotels. There was 30min snorkeling stop and then 2 hours at the island. Or yes we stopped at restaurant for some lousy meal. And then 4 hours back. Avoid it! Waste of time and money (120$ per person)

Saona Island gets all the cred but this was an awesome excursion. Much much much better snorkeling than Saona. Sting Rays, turtles, star fish, more fish species than I could count.
The catamaran was super spacious and had two bathrooms.
The island itself was super well maintained. Had excellent bathroom facilities. The food was top notch. Great beach chairs. This really cool wall that had tons of snorkeling and cavernous rock formations within the water that was awesome to snorkel through.
I really recommend Seavis tours as only they and ScubaCaribe have this part of the island with such excellent amenities. I read many reviews about the amenities on Catalina Island belong very minimal. Not the case here.
On the way back, we went down the Chavon river and saw spectacular houses, churches, wildlife., etc.
And then the rain started pouring down. Did this ruin it? My goodness. It turned the boat into a party cruise. The rum was flowing. Everyone was on their feet dancing to the music. Water was splashing all over the boat. Everyone was laughing and screaming and hollering . Again, more rum. Then there was our newlywed German friends. He was the leading song screamer/dancer. (I hope they are doing well. I tried to explain to him after the honeymoon, it's all different. 🤣 )
And Ingrid. The shiniest star in the sky. She was an absolute joy. I grew up in dog rescue and Ingrid is rescue for many animals, including donkeys, that all have souls. We had much in common to talk about and she is the pride of what Seavis tours offers.

What a great day. And most importantly, what a memorable day.

On a side note, my idiot teen son left his very valuable snorkel gear on the boat and our hotel is an hour away in Punta Cana. As we are getting off the transfer bus at the hotel, my son decides this is a good time to declare, "Has anyone seen my snorkel gear?"
I immediately contacted Seavis. As I still had a few days left of vacation, I asked Laura with Seavis if there was any possible way, one in a million chance I know, they could swing by the hotel, if and only if they had any transfers near Punta Cana for Thursday or Friday. Apparently, they had one on Friday so if you can believe it, Seavis and the transfer driver were able to deliver the snorkel gear to me on Friday. I still cannot believe this was able to be done. OMG...I was so happy to see Jose, the transfer driver. He was rewarded handsomely for his extra efforts. He is a Saint in my book and I will forever be grateful to how great Seavis, Jose, and Laura are.

What an awesome day. Then swallowed by the bowels of my teen son, only to be re-uplifted by Laura and Jose. Wooowhooo!!!

Total rip off.
Snorkeling: Not much to see there, don't bother if it is your main goal.
The company advertise paddleboard, kayak and pedalboat but there are none of these activities. Just a run down installation of beach chairs and palapas.
The ride to the island and back includes loud disco music and screaming animators all along.
We DO NOT recommend.

Positive:
- beautiful beach, although not necessarily better than any hotel beach
- Great for snorkeling

Downsides:
- We had the choice to either stay in the water and get roasted by the heavy sun or get eaten alive by hundreds of bloodthirsty horse flies on the beach
- any tour operator will deliver below their promises

Overall I don't feel the island is worth the visit except for the snorkeling part.
