Great neighbordhood for a walk, something that wasn;t always a good idea a couole of years a go. The Rif Fort Shopping Centre and Cruise Terminal brought new developments to this neighbourhood. Also, there are a lot of restaurants and bars that cater to all needs, while the area around the Brionplein used to be the only some fast food joints.

I think these developments are for the good, although I'm not promoting mass tourism by cruise ships - I have mixed feelings about that. I do hope and believe that locals will benefit from this growth and development when the current crisis is over. Creating new jobs and opportunities.

Curacao's Otrobanda district lies along the waterfront. It's characterized by it's colorful buildings. There are several historic forts and buildings, and many shops and restaurants. This area is a great place of art lovers. There is art everywhere, include statues and sculptures and the walls of the buildings are covered in beautiful, colorful murals.

This part of the city has many old and dilapidated buildings. But also many murals. You can see these very well for yourself during a walk through this part of the city. Go in the morning when it is not too hot yet, but already light. And take enough water with you.

Our second visit to Otrobanda. The previous time was on a cruise stop, pre-Covid19. On this vacation visit, most shops were closed and the area was dirty and rundown. I blame it on the lack of tourists due to Covid19 travel restrictions.

Had a great evening with colleagues. We even forgot how stressful the week was.
Like the food AWESOME😍
Service was TOP..
Mr Schotte is a loving, caring and charming host.
Like the way he come to table to give tips what & how to order. And to check if everything is okay.
We will be back with a bigger group of friends and colleagues.

We stayed in this part of the city. Plenty of cool buildings and lots of street art on buildings. Easy walk across the bridge to Punda section of the city. The museum is also on this side. Great walking tour on this side. Easy walk to many places to eat.

A great place to walk around and one that is safe. Thursday evenings are the liveliest. The area has good restaurants both inside and out. The shops are typical of tourist towns, but the facades are spectacular.

A pretty little Island Curacao as well as Otrobanda and Punda and most other towns we visited had the opportunities to be create repeat visitors.... but unfortunately the general demeanor of both the Dutch and the native Curacao people we interacted with were notably cold, notably unwelcoming, notably ungracious hosts... and no one seemed to really care.
Even though we are Canadian... it seemed that anyone who does not speak Dutch or appear to be Dutch... they are treated with a distant cold unfriendly manner. And the local Curacao native people also appeared to be notably unwelcoming and cold to all non native people. I believe tourism is really important for Curacao economy but no one seems to care if any arrival ever returns.
We did meet some lovely exceptions of course... but they are the exception.
CURACAO is in trouble... big trouble... unless the majority quickly figure out that tourists are part of the lifeblood for this Island's faltering economy.
And what is this stuck up ...I am better than you ...demeanor of the Dutch staff in the tourism and service industry ? Horrible.
My wife and I tried to be nice and friendly everywhere... yet have never received in such a short time so many snear faces, unfriendly looks, and again. ... a generally unwelcoming attitude as a rule... ever... anywhere.
Curacao is in trouble if they don't make a concerted effort to change this.
In the meantime.... don't visit Curacao... you will not be welcomed.

This was a cruise ship stop for us. My hubby and I opted for the self-guided walking tour (I did research and printed out maps before our cruise). Enjoyed Otrobanda more than Punda side of the canal. Loved walking across the Queen Emma pontoon brige and watching it as it opened for boat traffic. Liked the buildings' architectures, quaint streets, floating fish market, vegetable market and general atmosphere. Did not like the old fort in Otrobanda that had been turned into nightclubs. Could not really see the Governor's Mansion due to high walls surrounding the mansion. Except for the fact is was 88 degrees the day we visited I would have enjoyed the town even more. To cool off we sat canalside at Iguana Cafe enjoying the covered tables, water misters, and a tall cold drink.

While most travelers and cruise ship passengers cross the floating bridge to walk around Punda, with it's (expensive) shops and boutiques, I recommend a stroll thru
Otrobanda (the other side). The vibe is real Curacao, vibrant, friendly and different.
This is where the locals shop, and hang out. Lots of stores and boutiques, small hotels and bars. It is where the famous bar "Nettos" can be found. Home of the "Rom Berde".A green homemade rum with a taste of anise. Close by is Governor's Restaurant, with great views and excellent food. The Kura Hulunda museum is just behind this restaurant.
