These two sculptures capture something of the struggle of successive occupations and revolutions in Cuba. Most impressive.

Visitied Santiago de Cuba from Holguin on a bus excursion. stopped at the monuments and was impressed with the massive concrete statue of the soldier on the horse. as well there is an eternal flame below inside the monument.

Huge square with monumental statues in the middle. Easy to spot and find. Drive or walk around in 5-10 minutes nothing more.

The huge statue and the large "spikes" are very imposing. They represent the machetes with which the revolutionaries fought. They range from horizontal to vertical.

I had seen this statue on TV during the Pope's visit and was so glad to see it in person. Take a picture from across the street since it is massive and comprised of several pieces. Just be careful - the intersection is quite busy.

Do you mean from the city center? The Plaza is *in* Santiago de Cuba. It's at the entrance to the city! I don't recall the price of the taxi. Hopefully someone else can help!
