San Francisco de Asis Square is a perfect place to start or stop your journey around old Havana. Taxis, including vintage autos, are readily available and the Mercaderes street is adjacent.

Of 4 Plazas in Old Havana, this was my favorite. there is a big church which is now a national theater for the orchestra, and is right by the transit hub so it's easy to catch a cab or bus. Locals call it a pigeon...More

Nice area with shops and restaurants. Easy walking. Nothing spectacular. Good location though. The road going up the side of it has many fun looking restaurants. Very safe.

The Square is very active, avoid if you can the fancifully dressed ladies selling flowers and soliciting money to have photos taken with you. Not necessary. We left the Square as sunset approached so I am not sure of the night lighting which would make...More

The Statue of San-Francisco-Asís stands in the Plaza of the same name, in front of the Brisilica of San-Francisco-Asís, and just like all the thousands of tourist before us we had to touch the statue's polished smooth metal beard for luck. Tip. if you go...More

An historic square straight across from the cruise ship dock and likely the first spot you will visit if coming to Havana by sea. Some historic buildings and a statue of Junipero Serra (later of California missions fame).

If you are in the square, besure to take the self guided tour of the interior of the San Francisco church. It will cost 2 pesos or cuc to enter, but it is worth a look.

The plaza is a lovely open space with the old Basilica at one end, and the superb building of the old stock exchange at the other. A good place to sit for a while and enjoy, and do some people watching. Don't forget to stroke...More

If this was in St Francisco de Asisi Square, surely it will be right by the cruise terminal, which is to one side of the square, No band when we were there though.
