This large square is called San Francisco because of the convent next to it. This square was developed in 1628 with the job of supplying water to the ships trafing in Havana. Be sure to notice the many features.

There's nothing much in this square but if you're looking for somewhere to orientate yourself for accommodation, this is a good start point

We just wandered through this square without really stopping. I think the fact that it is open to the road on one side reduces it to just a thoroughfare.

If you take a cruise to Havana this is right where the cruise terminal is. It is a nice area to walk around, there are a few shops and a mix of tourists and locals walking around. There are classic car cabs all over this area.

...although it wasn't ours I mention it because once the cruise ships pull in across the street it can get very busy so you might want to get here early if you're staying in Havana. Although the main four squares of Old Havana may sound similar, they all have their own special feel and for me, it is the Basílica... More

If you come into Havana by cruise ship this will be the first square you encounter if you are walking. Don't rush through this area because there is a lot to see and photograph. There is a small chapel open to the public and free to the left of the square that is easily missed. The chapel is Greek Orthodox... More

This square is right across the street from the cruise ship terminal. The buildings and the cathedral have amazing architectural features. There's a beautiful hotel in the square and lots of little shops to buy souvenirs.

My friend and I met our tour guide in this square. Absolutely unbelievable buildings and a wonderful place to sit and just watch people go by. We loved it.

Interesting place for religious, cultural and architectural reasons. I believe there are some tombs buried beneath it.
