Excellent instructor and a great time catching the waves for the first time.. Axe is awesome who kept encouraging me and keeping me calm throughout. The lesson starts with few instructions on the beach and in no time we were already in the water paddling to catch the first waves. What an amazing experience! Thanks Axe for being patient and for the encouraging words..

I was very pleased with the service I got at the Dread or Dread Surf Shop. It is next to the Courtyard Marriott in Barbados.
Russell knew I had limited time and drove me to the beach location. He gave me a quick review and a couple of tips and of itself went!
The price at $50 a day for the paddleboard would have been great, but I only had a few hours. Still, I thought it was worth it.
I would certainly recommend his shop for any rentals. Surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel equipment were also there, although I did not price them out.
Thanks!

My wife and I just returned from our honeymoon in Barbados. One of the most memorable days was the 3 hour surfing lesson with Russell. First off, he's a great guy and very funny. He was very patient with us and had us riding waves in no time. Neither me or my wife had ever surfed, snow-boarded, skateboarded, ice-skated, roller-bladed, you name it...and for him to have us control and balance on our boards that quickly was just amazing. If you've never gone surfing and want to learn, it's definetly worth the small fee to ask Russell to teach you. There couldn't possibly be a better teacher on the island.

Our group of 10 really enjoyed their surf lessons. Almost everyone was able to get up on the board. My 24 year old has tried surfing before and never has gotten up until Mathew instructed him! My 17 year old daughter and 22 year old son got right up! I highly recommend surfing with Dread or Dead Surf Shop in Barbados. They were very reasonable as well. Can't say enough good things about this excursion!

When I first started the Surf in Barbados 'Zero to Hero' three day surf school, I didn't expect much; as I only surfed once before in my life, I imagined I might only be able to stand on the board by the end of the experience - if that. However, with the thoughtful and experienced guidance of surf instructors Matthew and Russell, I found myself performing confident turns on the surfboard by the end of the three days (and all at a great price). I highly recommend Surf in Barbados for anybody who wants to learn how to surf - and have a little fun along the way!

A fantastic surf school in Barbados where my children learned to surf. They started there last year at age 6 and 8 and Russell and his team were incredible in making sure it was safe and fun. Safety was key for me and I was always confident that Russell and his team choose locations suitable to the children. From no experience and pale Irish skin to cool surf dudes catching waves in a really short time. Back this year for more and the teaching is still top class. Russell is a really interested and dedicated teacher who loves to impart his passion for surfing to all. Never intimidating always fun. Next year ..... who knows maybe Mum and Dad will try it or..... the stand up paddle board that Russells team also teach.

To make the most of our stay I booked a surfing lesson for my last day in barbados and I was very lucky that Jay was free to take me out for a morning lesson before the flight home to the UK... Clear and expert instruction and very helpful advice in the water (as well as a few helpful tows back out to the waves) made my last day in Barbados one to remember! Managed to stand up and ride dozens of waves before exhaustion set in. Thanks Jay!

A friend and I recently decided to take a last minute trip to the exotic island of Barbados where in just 3 days this incredible adventure led us to swim with turtles, explore the island, and even take surf lessons. It was at the Amaryllis Beach Resort where I discovered the surf shop and school that is run by the super cool, laid-back surf pro Russell Garrett. After inquiring with Russell about my interest in taking a lesson, he introduced me to Adam, one of the school's top instructors. Before I knew it, a couple of surf boards were strapped onto the top of the jeep, I lathered myself with sunscreen (this is a MUST!) and Russell drove us to Pebbles Beach-- a beautiful place to learn. The waves that day, as Adam explained, were "perfect for learning." This was my first lesson so I asked Adam a lot of questions and he kindly explained in great detail how to lay properly on the surf board, paddle, and the mechanics of the water-- the board and the wave. Despite feeling a little overwhelmed, I was confident that all these things would come together once I was in the water, wink wink! We paddled out together and Adam stayed close to me the entire time. After getting hyped, I was ready to take on my first wave. Adam stayed behind my board and gave a strong push to my board while instructing me to paddle. I can still hear him shouting "PADDLE, PADDLE UP UP!! To my surprise, I was not only able to get up on the surf board on my first attempt, but I was also able to ride the wave for quite a long distance. Yes, it was about timing and a few other things, but having a patient, knowledgeable and super cute instructor truly made the difference! I highly recommend this surf school to anyone looking for the surfer experience!

3 coordination challenged girls, booked ourselves in and we were all able to get up on the board and felt really cool when we did. We got picked up and dropped off, communication was excellent and the instruction was fantastic. We got a great lesson, interesting conversation and had an amazing time. A must do during a trip to Barbados, we're booking ourselves in again later this week.!

We came back to Surf in Barbados for a 2nd time this month and it again was one of the highlights of our trip to Barbados. Three years ago, Jay took us out almost every day of our weeklong stay and he went out of his way to make sure that our experience was top notch. This time, we surfed with Russell (Jay's Dad) and it was the same amazing experience. He put in the extra effort to take us to the break that was the best on each particular day and was honest enough to tell us not to come out one day b/c no spots on the island would be good. Other outfits would have had us show up that day just to make money. These guys are great teachers, but also also are extremely personable and great hosts...even taking us to a locals only fish sandwich spot after surfing. Can't say enough good things about these guys!

Scusate a breve partirò per le Barbados, sto cercando un hotel, ma mi sto accorgendo che nella zona di Christ church, vedo sempre più foto dei surfisti e c è il mare mosso… è Effettivamente così?
