- Josie CBrighton, United Kingdom582 contributionsFun afternoon at the racesHad a fun afternoon at the first race of the year. Took taxi from cruise ship who dropped us off by the rails of the track therefore no entrance fee. We managed to see 4 out of the 6 races. Official betting booths are situated around the perimeter of the track along with little bars and food offerings. A wonderful, safe, family atmosphere and highly recommended as a change from sitting on the beach.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024
- Anthony StanleySolihull, United Kingdom54 contributionsFantastic “Day at the Races”Fantastic “Day at the races” … despite not picking away winner. We bought Grandstand tickets a couple of days before race day and it was $40bd each, this included a seat in the grandstand and a cushion for our seat. We managed to get a seat on the Finish Line, just high enough to keep out of the sun. Perfect. Small bars and foodstuffs were available and very reasonably priced … the bar behind the stand was better served than the one alongside the track. The racing was perfectly laid out and the bookies probably lost on every race, as it seemed the Favourites came home each time. My betting was purely for fun and I managed to not come last in a couple of races. Incidentally, it seemed that you were able to bring in your own drinks and snacks … so pack a picnic and enjoy yourselves. We certainly did !!!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 January 2024
- Laura W101 contributionsLovely day at the racesWe visited the races whilst on holiday in Barbados, and were fortunate that our hotel was within a short walking distance to the stand. We watched the racing from trackside, so didn’t cost anything. There was a great atmosphere, plenty of food/drink stalls and betting kiosks should you want to place a bet. The best thing was how close we were to the horses.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- jazpopsLewes, United Kingdom402 contributionsFree and good fun.If you don't go in the grandstand you can stand next to the uncrowded track for free. There are some betting Totes around and some hawkers for food as well as portaloos! We went by bus and there are bus stops nearby. $3.5 Bajan for any single journey, anywhere. A cheap but great afternoon out being among the locals and tourists alike. Not crowded.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 October 2024

When we lived here 37 years ago, I was fortunate enough to work with Caribbean Conservation defining the area and buildings around the ols British Garrison as the first conservation area in Barbados. While some parts look tired, the Garrison Museum is marvellous and well worth a visit. Knowledgeable staff can outline the history and the walk through museum is well presented- there is even a prison cell to visit.
it is great to see such history so well preserved

The Savannah is an area of land about 1 mile from Bridgetown once used by the British forces station in Barbados as a parade ground. After the troops withdrew to Britain in1905, the property became devoted to sports of various kinds including rugby and soccer games.
Where the British officers once raced their horses, in1845 became the home of The Garrison Savannah horse racecourse. Which is worth a visit if you are in this part of town and would like to take part in live gambling
TIP: if you do not wish to pay the entry fee there is around the whole race track a small white fence making it very convenient to stand and watch the horses run by, perfect for those of you on a budget.
I would apricate a thumbs up below if you found this review informative. Thank you

The horse racing experience not to be missed. Prices of entry vary according to your needs. Lovely lunch from the restaurant. The bar and outside terraces are quick to serve and the betting kiosks are available throughout the course. Grandstand seats are not essential as viewing the race is easy around the perimeters. The horses are beautiful but the stall handlers take a while to install them into the starting stalls. Races are every half hour. You must show evidence of vaccination against Covid on arrival. Grandstand entry is 50 Barbados dollars. A great day out.

We bought tickets in the grandstand a few days in advance at the ground. BBD 25pp and was worth doing as we were able to choose our seats and were told which ones were in the shade. You have to have photo ID and proof of vaccination to enter. Mixture of locals and tourists.
Easy to place bets, minimum bet of BBD 2. Not clear what odds you are getting though, but didn’t bother us as we weren’t betting big.
Food and drink offering is ok but a bit limited and long queues. Ice cream was good.
You could technically watch the race without paying by standing at the far end of the course, but you would miss the excitement, betting and shade.
Thoroughly recommend for an afternoon out.

I had a lovely day at the races on Saturday. Beautifully bred horses, good organisation of the venue, good music and vibe. Stands are sheltered and cool. Nice bar and restaurants serving local and international food. I dressed up for the occasion, but saw many patrons in casual dress. Went solo as a single lady and had a lovely time while my family relaxed by the pool. Bliss.

Had a blast in the Gold Cup Village on the savanna at the 2023 Sandy Lane gold cup although their could have been a wider selection of food and drink. The gold champagne 🥂 glasses were a hit until they ran out and it became a huge miss at one particular kiosk along with the Photo Booth (technical difficulties) but the desserts made up for the disappointments somewhat. That and navigation of a bet which yielded positive results. Glad I went with friends and met new acquaintances, a BIG WIN 🏆

Went to a race meeting the other week had a great time, we didn't go into the stands we watched from the side barriers. You are with the locals which was lovely experience, lots of people selling food and drinks. The added bonus you can still put a bet on, word of warning it can take a while to put bets on and even to collect your wins. Also portaloo's are around the race track so you can have a few drinks and take in the atmosphere, 100% worth the visit.

Is there a dress code for the grandstand? Can we wear shorts, vest & flip flops? The website isn’t very clear. Thanks

Hi, can anyone tell me how close a taxi or bus can get to the racecourse entrance? And then how far it is from the entrance to where we can actually stop to watch the racing? My husband has difficulty walking more than 50 yards, especially if it's over bad ground, wouldnt want to get there and find it was too far to actually get to the the racing.
Thanks for your help

We caught the 'local' bus from our hotel (Butterfly Beach) to the Racecourse. The bus stop is about 100 metres from the main entrance. The Grandstand is immediately inside. Racing is every other Saturday during the season, and some Public Holidays.

Is the racecourse accessible for people with mobility issues? For example, if they need to use a wheelchair, a mobility scooter or simply have difficulty walking unaided?
Really appreciate any guidance anyone can provide.
Stay safe everyone!

Great advice already given i would definitely contact Anakin regarding Course access but depending on how you intend to travel to the course beware the roads and pavements are awful in Barbados hopefully the new Prime Minister will address this problem asap - it will however likely take years. If not going into the stand the area around the course is grass. Also please make sure you take a Parasol as protection from the sun.
