Years ago there was a traffic policeman guiding cars around while he stood in the birdcage. Have been back many times since but have not seen this recently. Is a unique feature however and can't miss it as you wander down Front Street.

The Birdcage is a piece of local history instigated in the 1950s where the police used to direct traffic from. It is situated on Front Street, the Main Street in Hamilton that runs along the Waterfront. A nice touch of bygone days.

It's been on Front Street in Hamilton since the 50's - just a bit of nostalgia to see and enjoy. We can only imagine what it was like in those to days to see a police Officer there directing traffic.

I love stopping by the Birdcage to stand in it for a Photo but years ago a Police Office was there directing traffic with a flare.

Designed by Geoffrey Dicky Bird in the 1950's because he saw that the police at the intersection of Front Street and Queen Street needed protection form the elements. Now traffic light does the job except on occasion when the police are present for photo ops....More

I just stumbled across this and thought it was a joke! You may as well say a traffic light or a phone box is an attraction. It's a little bit silty say the least.

It's a bit dilapidated and in the middle of the road. Probably a good photo op, but otherwise really no big deal.

Don't expect much. If it wasn't a kind of historical fixture, it would probably be removed as a traffic hazard. No longer in use, it is just decoration.

We came to Bermuda for three weeks. Prior to leaving we studied up by reading travel books, which really helped. We thought the "Birdcage" would be a good photo/video opportunity- boy were we wrong. While it is still in the intersection it is not used...More

A great picture opportunity, especially for those with small children. Otherwise, it is just something to see.
