Cenotaph

What caught my eye was the Cenotaph monument in front of the Cabinet building. It's almost identical to the Cenotaph memorial in London.

This was a very interesting stop during our most recent Bermuda vacation; I recommend it on a rainy day. I was surprised to hear how old the building is since it looks so new from the outside. We were given a great tour of the building by the Master of Arms.

Interesting to learn about their government processes. Met the Speaker of Parliament only to learn his relatives live in my community and one tenth of the parliament was educated within 90 minutes of my hometown.

We visited on a Tuesday, a quiet day for the Chamber, but one which turned into a private tour by a very nice gentleman who delayed his lunch in order to show us around. On a return visit we would like to visit again, when the Chamber is in session.

Great architecture and a lot of photo opportunities. Don't go on the weekend though as most is closed.

The visit to the Senate Chamber was very interesting and the explanation of Bermudian politics was well explained by our guide on the walking tour of Hamilton. We were surprised at the size of the senate chamber.

This delightful building is set in charming grounds and contains some interesting paintings and artefacts. It is the home of the Senate, with only 11 members. When the Senate is not in session (most of the time) one can just wander into the chamber with no escort or supervision. Until this trip the only 'Parliamentary' building anywhere in the world... If you like your politics then you will love this place. Steeped in history. You can take pictures from outside in parliament street (aptly named of course).

If you find politics interesting then you might find this place where the politicians meet to create a lot of hot air also interesting. Frankly I find the architecture to be the best thing about this whole building. There are some sculptures and memorials on the grounds of the Senate Building.

Bermuda's House of Assembly (the large building on Parliament Street) meets on Fridays (with break from 12:30-2:00 for lunch). It is worthwhile to spend 10 minutes in the visitors' gallery to see the speaker with his ceremonial wig and mace, and view the British imperial symbolism and architecture. At the eastern door is the Bermuda Supreme Court, where the judges... More
