A great trip on small boats with informative guides to see the Frigates mating season had just started so it was great seeing the males puff up their red chests and make the mating calls to attract the females to partner with them. Awesome birds with a 6 ft wingspan

We took this trip as part of a tour package in August 2016. We had a bathroom break at the Fisheries Division on site before boarding a small boat or pirogue that would take us to the bird sanctuary. Our boat was full and it accommodated the 8 passengers comfortably. I must admit that it was a pretty fast though... More

My husband and I visited the bird sanctuary in March 2016. We got close to the birds and saw the amazing red breasted males! It was awesome! I would highly recommend a visit to the bird sanctuary while in Barbuda.

It's for you who loves to see the nature! If you already in Barbuda, schedule this. It's very short ride on the speed boat.

We took a local tour arranged by our hotel, as it was early-ish in the morning we were the only ones on the boat, and the only ones visiting the colony for the entirety of the trip. It's a quick boat ride across the lagoon, and then you start spotting the frigate birds. We were there in the mating season... More

A must visit on your trip to Barbuda. The beauty of the birds when they extend their wings. It was amazing to me to find birds nesting in the ocean.

The largest frigate colony is on Barbuda and you take a small (bumpy) boat out to them. The birds are not disturbed in any way and there was only one other very small group whilst we were there. It was very interesting if a little smelly (the birds only eat flying fish). Well worth the trip

Not being a "twitcher" type I wasn't sure about this but definitely worth doing; 15 minute boat trip across the lagoon from Codrington with a local boatman who was pretty knowledgeable. Incredible how close you can get to these birds with their young - you worry slightly if you are getting too closed but it is all marked off and... More

Our tour was arranged by our sailing cruise. The sanctuary is in a mangrove lagoon, and is not accessible by foot. From the pier there is a bus ride to the lagoon and then a 15 minute ride in a small open air skiff. These huge birds are amazing and there are about 2000 of them all clustered together in... More

We visited the sanctuary taken by George who gave a historical overview of the island of Barbuda to begin the tour. We went late afternoon so missed the heat at noon - we were alone so enjoyed the sanctuary to ourselves for 10 minutes which was amazing. This is the largest frigate colony in the world - we have seen... More
