This is an old fort and a history museum rolled into one. The staff were extremely helpful in explaining what was on show at the Fort. We climbed the tower first. This is a challenging climb as there are several (5?) floors and the climb is up ship's ladders. The view form the top was very good. There wasn't a... More

Fort Zoutman located in Oranjestad, Aruba, is now a small museum with a small entrance charge and its interesting. If you are there on a Tuesday evening they have a show about the culture, Bon Bini Festival. Its a Dutch colonial port. Most of us from Florida are fishing or scuba diving. Other sites Willem 111 Tower & historical museum;... More

Every Tuesday night there is a local culture festival at Fort Zoutman called the Bon Bini Festival. The small museum was touching. The festival celebrated local food, singing, dancing, poetry readings and some basic Papiamento (the local language). An excellent introduction to Aruba that goes beyond the shopping, tours and other typical tourist activities.

The fort is tiny and can be seen quickly. However, on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30, there is a show about the culture. There was a small band, some local ladies who danced, a singer, a poet, and finally a small carnival parade. Don't expect a Las Vegas review, but for $5, it was certainly worth it. We didn't... For a small entrance fee, you can visit this museum. It's small but has some interesting things to see and provides a little history into Aruba's past.

We were walking around the town of Oranjestad and found the Fort. On Google maps it is referred to as Fort Orange. Anyway, we took pictures of the exterior, but did not pay the $5 fee to go inside. It was built in 1798 by the Dutch and is the oldest structure on the island. The William III Tower was... More

We went there during the lunch heat in Oranjestad. The museum had an interesting exhibition on local textiles. The staff also took us to the top of the tower to explain us the sights and buildings in Oranjestad.

Made very welcome by The great great grandaughter, Joasy, of the Lieutennant who guarded the fort during the 1800s with 12-15 soldiers! Lucky enough to get a roof top view with guide Carlos who rang the bell. Grand view of Oranjestaad.Museum, airconditioned , traditional weaving history of the island and a contemporary art exhibition! We then attended the Bon Bini... More
