It is hard to miss this huge statue of V C bird the countries first prime minster and who the airport is named after. Its situated on the main crossroads of ST johns just before the main bus station. The statue is so big it looks out of context and is badly in need of a new paint job, mind... More

We recognized the name from V.C. Bird Airport. The plaque gives a good explanation of the man's life but the statue itself is showing signs of age. The paint has come off in several places and the area around the statue is in need of a good cleaning. We expected far better.

This 'monument' is, to put it plainly, quite atrocious! It seems as though it were commissioned in a whim, and contracted for 6-year old equipped only with paper maché and their wild imaginations. I suppose if you've bothered to come to town (which is compact with the worthwhile sights clustered close by), then you can walk past this and give... More

The V C Bird Monument, is reasonably well maintained, and by that I mean it is reasonably frequently repainted. It portrays the founding father of the independent Antigua, and a man well revered on the Island. The airport is named after him, V C Bird International. There is a small but tidy park area behind the Monument, often frequented by... More

This rather gaudy monument is rather false in my opinion, if you read in depth about the history of Antigua, I recommend 'A Small Place' by Jamaica Kincaid, you will understand that this man was not the hero he is made out to be. Very annoying that the airport is named after him.

Heard of the monument before heading into town. Passed it a couple of times, I didn't think it was attractive. No worth coming out to view.

This is a monument to the father of the nation who helped get them independence from the British. It's a good photo opportunity. You can learn much more about V.C. Bird at the museum. A very important person in the history of Antigua and Barbuda

Only managed to stop there for a photo opportunity as it is on a busy street. Also given only a short explanation by our guide.

Sorry but this statue looked to me as though it was made from plastic. Obviously caused by the materials used to stand the continuous high temperature
