Exterior of building and courtyard are historic and visually interesting. $5 admission charge to enter the grounds but no guides or information available to inform self-guided tour. Most of interior appears new with few original details besides the altar and a chandelier. Very brief visit.

It was clearly the biggest building in town, so we walked up the hill, struggled up the hill on a hot day and went inside where the ceilivng fans were going. There was a wedding starting, so we did not want to intrude. A tropical Anglican church.

This morning we visited the Anglican Cathedral of Antigua. We arrived at about nine o'clock while a Mass started at eight o'clock. We have reached the final phase when the pastor and the faithful sing the songs of thanksgiving that are particularly felt here. The grey building stands on a hill overlooking the city. The interior of the church is all wooden, new and resplendent and slightly out of tune with the exterior of the building

Watch out when the cruise ships are in town. When we got to the church there was a handmade cardboard sign with an entrance fee in various currencies. Churches don’t charge admission, so I figured this was a local scam to get the cruise crowd. Same thing happened in the local museum which I read was free. We gave up…sick of always being “taken”.

Reputed to be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean this seat of Anglicanism in the area is actually the third iteration of the church originally consecrated in 1683, and subsequently destroyed by damage or earthquake in later centuries. The structure is magnificent from afar, making a reference point for we tourists returning to the northwest area of the country. Sadly, only the interior has received the necessary work, allowing regular masses to be celebrated. The woodwork throughout is exceptionally fine and, like a previous reviewer, I also felt it ship-like in appearance and ambience. The exterior, however, is verging on a crumbling mess. There remains only one entrance to this edifice and the grounds are dilapidated. Funding for the extensive and necessary renovations of the exterior cannot simply be left to donations, but should be augmented by the government for this important historic site. Apart from the market in early morning, this sacred place is the only reason to enter the capital of Antigua.

A walk up hill from the cruise port but not too far. All the local I passed were very friendly. Don't miss the little shop at the entrance to the cemetery - I bought little nativity scenes in calabash nuts. The cathedral is all polished wood inside supposedly to protect the building from earthquakes and hurricanes.

It seems most of the major renovations have been done although please put donation money in their boxes as I think the roof needs fixing. It is gorgeous and a step back in time...you could tell there had been earthquakes just looking at the topography there with grave stones moved etc. I heard Oprah has a place on the island somewhere...instead of spending millions to refurbish one of her bathrooms she should do something wonderful for this run down island!!!!!!!!!!!

We did a walking tour of the Town of St John. Part of that was the Cathedral. Unlike European Cathedrals the entire inside is finished with wood. Beautiful craftsmanship and there is stain glass also.
There is a mezzanine but it isn't used much. This was the church of the gentry and business owners.

Relatively a short walk up a steep bank from the cruise port and worth the effort to get there. Very old world charismatic from the outside. The inside is clearly undergoing a major renovation and starting to look good with the magnificent wood fittings all around. Atmospheric and charming building indeed.

This wonderful old cathedral is going through major repairs, but is very beautiful and interesting the tour. The interior has magnificent wood surfaces from the floor to the ceilings. The exterior is in pretty bad shape but restoration is continuing. I hope the repairs continue until this building is restored to its original glory!
