We had already toured Devils Bridge twice so it was time for Hells Gate in Antigua. It is a small island Northeast of Antigua near Bird Island only accessible by boat. It was one of our wonderful stops on Adventure Antigua-Eli’s Original Eco Tour. The boat was Captained by Shamal and tour led by Karin and Trevor. It was an educational tour with history and eco information, not just a boat ride. At this stop they anchored and Led us on a short swim to the Island, climbed thru a cave and got on top of the Gate opening. I did not swim with my camera so pictures are only from the boat. Great stop on the Eco tour ! Great crew and eco information.

We visited Hell’s gate as part of our Eco boat Tour which I Highly recommend. The crew were informative and helpful in assisting passengers to swim over to and walk up Hell’s Gate..... as I’m not a strong swimmer I decided to remain on the boat with a few others, but it was still a lovely place to see.

A group of us stopped at Hell's Gate on a tour through Antigua in November 2019. As you approach, you can already see how gorgeous this location is, with the clear waters and perfect scenery. Once you stop, you can swim up and get right under the archway of Hell's Gate, taking some spectacular pictures. You can also brave the stand to put one foot in the Carribean water and one in the Atlantic water. For the adventurous (us), you can climb up and go through the caves, making your way to the top of the formation. The views from up there are post card beautiful.
This is a MUST SEE location in Antigua!!

Jump from a boat, swim to the gate, climb up and smell the fresh air. The climb up/down is a bit tricky make sure you have adequate shoes. To get the best from this place use a guide, we went with Adventure Antigua - Eli's Original Eco Tour

This is an interesting natural wonder carved out from the ocean waves. You can't swim out to it. You will need a boat to get to it. The water around is so beautiful with some serious currents.

Few tour operators actually take you to climb up onto Hell's Gate, so understand what you are getting into before you go - sailing by and looking is very different from swimming off the boat in watershoes, climbing on the jagged coral rock up and through a cave and eventually to the top. The climb is a bit intense but the reward is premium views of the surrounding islands.

The bridge is yet another place where the sea has eroded the rock, but there is a little beach close by for sunbathing or for paddling. A short climb from the beach gives excellent views of both Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans. The snorkelling is excellent with a large variety of fishes who seem quite happy to have people near them

Hell's Gate didn't feel something out of the ordinary, however if you have time to kill on the island its worth a drive. There are a variety of critters living in the water eroded rocks and the beauty of the ocean seen all over Antigua. However, the most thrill seeking aspect of this view point would be the force of the waves crashing against hell's gate. Be ready to get wet!
