This was the first of many of the neolithic temples we visited during our trip in Malta. It was small, not crowded when we went (on a Sunday) and very well kept. We entered as part of the Heritage Malta pass.

Although some of the massive slabs are clearly restored with modern material, this 4,500-year old structure is truly impressive. There are 4 temples which give an idea of the architectural development of these primitive people. The carvings and decorations, especially what had once been a 2-metre high statue, show fine workmanship and were executed using only stone tools. Although they... More

The structure of the temple is not unique for the island, nevertheless the site is well preserved and facilitated for visiting. What exactly you get visiting Tarxien Temples: -seeing parts of the sculptures that are popularized on postcards; -stone combinations that doesn't make sense to modern people neither impress somehow; -ancient and new stones with a very low chances to... I live just around the corner from the Temples and have visited them many times. Knowing the history of this site makes the experience special. Some visitors are disappointed about the size of the ruins, but with some background knowledge it is a lovely place to visit.

This is truly fascinating experience! To be able to walk through such well preserved ruins of an ancient temple dating back more than 5000 years is truly mind blowing! You can stand right where people prayed all those thousands of years back, and where sacrifices (may be human) were made.. simply amazing! A must see!

We had some trouble finding the temples but the effort was more than worth while. The site is under cover and the walkways take you into the heart of the building as well as above it so you can see the layout and the detail. After visiting the Archaeological museum and the Ggantija temples we had some idea what to... More
