Nice well maintained cave. It is about 150 steps climb to the mouth of the cave. From the entrance there are steep stairs into the cave and another about 100 steps down once within the cavern. Entrance fee is 20 baht, same for Thai's and Foreigners. There are lights and paths throughout the cave, but if you want to see more you can rent a torch at the top of the steps for 20 baht. I spent less than 1 hour here.

THIS is a very interesting cave system to explore but make sure you are reasonably fit and not claustrophobic.
I say this because there are a lot of steps up and then a lot of steps down, because you then have to return the same way and because two pinch points along the way are narrow to say the least.
It was only possible for me to make it to the bottom by reversing the way I was facing on the way down so I could face the steps and practically lie down on them to fit in through a narrow gap in the rock.
The system itself offers an array of stalactites and stalagmites and a large reclining buddha while there are some stunning views while climbing the hillside up to the cave mouth.
There is good lighting inside but we were still grateful for a mobile phone torch while negotiating uneven sections of the pathway lower down towards the bottom of the cave.
Well worth a visit and the rock formations are varied.

Give yourself 2 hours to fully appreciate and explore the cave and 1000 steps to the top. The payoff is worth the climb. The cave is about one third the way up and goes deep into a large opening and labyrinth of trails. A headlamp or phone flashlight is helpful but not necessary. The cave is lit.

We combined a trip to this cave with a visit to San Khampaeng hot springs and were amazed by it! There's a small entrance fee of 30฿ and we were also charged 10฿ to park our motorbike. From the car park we climbed up a naga staircase (about 200 steps) to the cave entrance where a man checked our ticket. We then descended down a steep staircase, ducking under a rock into the first chamber. From there we descended a second staircase into the larger lower chamber where there are a number of Buddha statues as well as natural rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is well lit throughout so you don't need a torch, also the pathways are all concreted so there's no scrambling although, as I mentioned, the stairs are steep so it might not be suitable for everyone. There were very few visitors when we went and we were just blown away by the size of the cave and how well set up it is.

Once you've climbed back up the steps to the cave entrance I would recommend continuing to climb up the staircase to the top of the hill for some spectacular views over the surrounding area as well as a chedi and some more shrines. There are a lot of stairs to the top and it's hot although they are mostly under the trees so not in direct sun - make sure to take a bottle of water. There are a couple of stalls in the car park selling drinks and also some toilets (which I think there might be an additional charge for).

To get there from Chiang Mai head east on road 1006 following signs for San Khampaeng Hot Springs and also some signs for the cave. From the 1006 you will join the 1317. It's not signposted in English from this road but there is a big green tiled sign in Thai and a sign to a Wat (sorry I can't remember the name) at the turning you need. In any case it's the turning BEFORE the hot springs so if you get there, turn around and retrace your steps for a few hundred metres. After you've turned off the 1317 it's not far and there are signs in English again. Google has the location in the correct place if you search for 'Muang On Cave' - the coordinates are 18.787286, 99.237614

You will need to be healthy to climb the stairs up to the cave and also climb down inside the cave.

The cave is huge. Many stalactites and stalagmites inside. There is also a big reclining buddha. Amazing.

It is worth to visit.

Hope you are physically fit because this cave is a tough one to get to. We rented a scooter and drove out to the countryside for some exploration. When we got to the top of this mountain the view was spectacular.

There is a nominal fee for parking, the entrance fee and toilet paper if you forgot to bring some. Once you park and are ready (hope you brought water) you climb a serpent staircase for what seems to be to heaven. The stairs are uneven and take your breath away if you are not accustomed to the exertion. I had to stop several times to rest before reaching the top.
Once you arrive to the entrance to the cave, you descend a well maintained staircase that is lit and has good stair rails to help you down. There is one point where you nearly need to lay down to get under a stalagmite to continue down. Once you pass this, you begin to see how big this cavern is. There are small alters throughout the cave once you are at the bottom and it is nice and cool. It is perfect temp for a hot day. The giant buddhas are impressive.

The way back up can be tough. If you were NOT bothered by the trek, you can get out of the cave and continue to the top of the mountain on the trail to a lookout point and small temple.

It's not particularly easy to get in and out of the cave if you're not very agile. But most people shouldn't have a big issue. When I went we were the only people there and for some reason all the lights went out plunging us into absolute darkness. Fortunately we had flashlights and we able to see, but it was pretty spooky, but enjoyable nonetheless.

we climbed to the topof many steps to the side of a mountain and when we entered the cave, there was a frightening stairway that led us down about 2 stories to a floor. After a brief stroll we found another small steep stairway that took us down about 3-5 stories to the floor of the cave. Absolutely amazing!

You will have some difficulties to found the road on your left side (if you’re coming from Chiang Mai), because all the sign are in Thaï… but it’s a tiny road which go up on the mountain before the cross street leading to the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs. You will have a big car park (big sun no much shadow), and first of all you have to buy your ticket for 30 TBH for foreign adults.
You will first start with some stairs to go to the entrance of the cave.
Mind the head when you will go down to the cave! It's very vertical and you have to be very close to the ground sometime to go down the stairs. You will reach a first stage without nothing particular, and you will take a second stairs to go to the second floor down. There are Big sleeping Buddha, many little statue and geologic curiosity. And a very big space upon your head.
Very big cave, you have to take care of children in the stairs, and people with some fear of high could be not so good sometimes (as I was…). After the visit of the cave, you can climb with more than 1400 steps to the top of the mountain, you will reach little temple, and beautiful view of the valley from Doi Suthep, Chiang mai and paddy field.(Don’t forget to get a lot of water for the ascension). You can combine your visit with the hotspring 5 min away from gate to gate.
