As the ferry pulled closer to Ometepe, we knew we were in for a special experience. Eric met us at the dock, and over the next two days shared his deep knowledge about nature, history and culture, as well as his passion for his homeland. The most experienced birder on our trip agreed that Eric was among the most skilled guides she'd ever encountered - anywhere in the world. Eric effortlessly balanced between deeply knowledgable members of our group, and the rest of us who were eager but somewhat new to the birds, butterflies, geology and history of Ometepe. Two years later we still marvel and laugh about the "ant-tasting" and how our vegan friend Sandy agreed they taste just like carrots! We long to return to Ometepe and to Nicaragua in general, and can't wait for what Eric can show us and teach us.

We are two retired guys who take independent trips to Latin America. We stayed on Ometepe for three nights. Eric gave us a comprehensive tour in one full day. His English is excellent. He has been a guide for quite a few years. He had access to local farms, a coffee plantation, lands replete with pre-Columbian petroglyphs ( rock carvings) back to 1000 BC , natural wildlife and culture. He also leads treks up the island's volcanoes.... not for us at our age.

We thoroughly enjoyed Ometepe and would use Eric again.

Eric Henriquez of Ometepe Trails was our guide for a two-day visit by a small group I brought to Ometepe in January 2018. He and his driver took excellent care of us from the time we arrived on the island until we left.

Eric is a great nature tour leader, has great stories about the history and culture of Ometepe, and has a deep love for the island. He has a sharp eye for spotting flora and fauna -- deeply impressing a birding friend of mine who is accustomed to high-caliber guides. He molded our experience to our capabilities in terms of walking pace and terrain and was always happy to answer questions. Our time with Eric was a nice balance of nature, culture, and a swim at Ojo de Agua. A couple of my more fit travelers are keen to return and hike Volcan Concepcion with Eric.

If you're planning to spend time on Ometepe, Eric is your best option for a guide!
