Initially wanted to stay in Alishan but after researching accommodation and transport schedules, it seemed far easier to stay in Chiayi and do a day trip to Alishan during a weekday - this worked out well for us. Stayed at a hotel around the corner from Chiayi TRA train station and next morning got the 7.40am bus direct to Alishan... More

Just a reminder to those who carry small kids. The place has too many step up and down the hill. Not friendly to wheelchair or stroller. Be prepared to carry your kid.

The Alishan National park was worth visiting.Walking along the path, you can watch the sacred trees which spices is Taiwan red cypress. I was impressed with that countless steps yet we all finished, we can still feel the mystical atmosphere surrounding there, although it was struck by lighting,.And also we moved to another region,Alishan Forest Railway, taking the train from Alishan to Erwanping... Even in the rain, the forest was full of trees which looked as if they had been sculpted by giants. Glad I did not miss it. The paths were wet and sometimes slippery but it was worth it.

We made a day trial from Taipei to visit Alishan in Chaiyi via Taiwan's high speed train system and local bus. We visited the Alishan National Forest Park which is well maintained with a lot of giant cypress trees. There were 20+ identified cypress tress with numbers to track their growth. Strolling along the well built trail to view the... More

Had a wonderful trip to this renown mountain in Taiwan.Few pointers we learned and like to share. Our starting point is Chiayi.Took the public bus 7322 line from Chiayi Railway station.Bus time table with B line is a mini bus, so when booking at the window ask for big coach.More comfy on a winding road. Book a day before or on... More

Natural forest with clean air. If you bring elderly or very young kids who are not able to climb staircase or walk far, you might want to consider to skip this attraction. Otherwise, it worth a visit.

My visit to Alishan was by far the best in Taiwan, and I've been here for 2 months! To get the best out of the beautiful sunrise in Alishan, either hire a driver/self-drive/take the early morning old-school train (departs at 5.10am, 150NTD, 1hour journey) and alight at the final station. The sun usually rises at about 6.30am according to the... More

It is a scenic place that should not be missed. Go for long strolls following the trails to visit the "giant" cypress trees... Take the train to a vantage point to watch the sunrise. An experience not to be missed. Yes wake up at 4am... to be at train station by 5am.. Yes! The beautiful sunset too...

It was very peaceful and tranquil walking in the forest. Plenty of trails around and it is easy to follow - just stick to the paved walkways. The Alishan Forest Railway is also worth taking. I didn't want to squeeze with everyone so I didn't catch the famous sunrise. Came instead at 10+ AM and the train was relatively empty... More
