A very popular hiking trail for locals. We started our trek in the morning around 10am and it was scorching hot with no tall trees for shade. It's necessary to bring enough water and pack of light lunch. It was tiring and quite challenging for the long climb and never ending stairs. But it was worthwhile for the spectacular view.

Every year I will go here to hiking, this trail need to spend 2-3hour to finished,on Nov is flower season,if you have time ,come to enjoy! 11月正是芒花盛開的時候,每當這時候特別會來爬,今年人很多,火車站塞滿了人,覺得交通部份可以改進,但十分推薦帶便當跟橘子上山吃,會有一種啊,人生啊 的感覺!

#throwbackMarch. took the county train from taipei to yilan (da li station). In summary - good workout, spectacular views of the coasts, quiet, quaint trails, relatively well maintained paths. difficulty level - 3/5 tip: if you like coastal views more than city views, choose this over the Elephant mountain for your weekend hike. I prefer coastal walks, i have enough... More

I did this trail from Dali to Fulong. I caught the first train for 5:30 straight to Dali from Taipei main station. Soon as you get off the train there is already a basic map showing where the trail starts. The beginning is quite brutal. Very steep though has plenty of trees providing shade. After you get through that it... More

The Caoling Historic Trail is a good hike if you want some gentle and easy workout. Would recommend going from Dali ,( or even from Daxi if you want totally cardio training which I can assure its totally worth it ) . This way you can enjoy some local food or even went on a decent bike ride or some... More

We were with one experienced and one unexperienced hiker and we both really enjoyed the walk. There is a lot of variety in what you see along the way. Great ocean views on beginning and end but also jungle, and you follow a stream for quite a while. We walked in februari and it was very quiet. The walk is... More

We started early morning from Gongliao station. After a couple of km's walk we reached the head of the trail. There are name boards often.. so it is unlikely you will miss the right direction.. Plenty of butterflies and birds.. not many people around, you can really enjoy the trail... Carry water and food.. in case you need a lunch... More

Came here three times already, starting from Fulong or Gongliao going to Dali. There are a lot of stairs at the beginning but it´s really worth it. There will be lots of people on the weekend, also lots of groups, so no danger of getting lost or something like that. Be sure to bring some food and lots of water,... More

Easily accessible, this is one of my favourite day hikes in Northern Taiwan. Not heavily touristic but, as with most places in Taiwan, try to visit on a weekday. Weather is temperamental here, so bring a jacket and prepare for clouds coming over. As mentioned, the walk is primarily by steps (which I actually find more taxing) and could be... More

If you're looking for an easy day trip hike from Taipei, Caoling Historic Trail is a good one. The hike can be started from either Fulong (福隆) or Dali (大里). It seems like a lot of people start from Fulong and end in Dali, but based on our experience, I would recommend going from Dali to Fulong for two reasons.... More
