A must-visit mountain town when you are in Taipei. A friendly taxi driver took us from Taipei city to Jiufen with reasonable fare of TW$900. Unfortunately, we visited the old street during Taiwan holidays and it was jam-packed with tourists, to an extend that it was difficult to move around. Most shops closed at 7pm so be sure to reach... Get there at the right time for a very pleasant visit. The stairway (200 steps) is stunning and the teahouses are absolutely picturesque. Every nook, shop or sea view is worth taking a picture of. There's a restored theater that is full of history. You are taken back in time .... when the crowd and buses appear, old Jiufen turns... More

Walking up this ancient street with its stalls, and occasional glimpses of the stunning views between the buildings is an experience in itself. there is also the street foods ranging from sweets to pork blood pudding which add to your experience of Taiwanese life as it once might have been.

We arrived at 10am and it was a relaxed walk through the old street of Jiufen. After eating a few snacks we ended up in a traditional tea house where we stayed for over an hour to have traditional taiwanese tea overlooking the hill. It was wonderful. When we walked out of the tea house at 12 noon, it was... More

Honestly, I went to this place because of the film and got no knowledge prior. The place got a lot of shops that offer from local food, drinks, tea, clothes, bags, accessories and many more. We find the food here better than those we've tried in Taipei. The tea house that's always been seen in post cards and was used... More

The Jiufen is on wonderfully winding mountain roads. At Jiufen there got lots of alleys, at both side of the alleys got a lot snack shops, local street food and souvenir shop. The view from Jiufen old street are stunning.

It is a charming old street with steps and steps all over. Not the most recommended place should you have elderly. You will find a lot of charming old shops and tea houses. If you are a fan of Ghibli, Jiufen is also the place where the inspiration for the movie spirited away.

MUST visit! Rumoured as the place where Hiyao Miyazaki got his inspiration for Spirited Away, it really does resemble a real-life Spirited Away setting :). It's as if you're in a Studio Ghibli film, and was so much fun walking around, enjoying the views, and exploring all the different shops (selling food, craft, trinkets, teashops)! There’s even this really unique... More
