We were staying on Kabatogama but made the effort to drive up here in case we would miss out on something big. Unless you are planning on launching in here- it is okay to miss. That said it is the most modern and entertaining of the 3 visitor centers we went to (Ash, Kettle, Rainy).

Beautiful scenery and fishing. Better understanding of the voyageurs provided at Grand Portage National Historic Site. This is the place to get away from it all, but bring your own food (or better yet be prepared to catch and cook it yourself) because there is not much around.

It was a beautiful day & our guide was very informative. It's basically a boat trip around a beautiful lake. We did stop at an island, where at one time they did gold mining, but other than a hole in the ground, mostly covered with trees, there wasn't much to see. The tour around the lake took about 2 1/2... More

As you already know, this park is best explored by boat. In fact, a boat is the only way to visit most of the park. Alas, we visited Voyageurs National Park on a cross-country road trip that didn't allow the time (or boat) necessary to really explore the park. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the Rainy Lake visitor center. We hope... More

We took the 2.5 hour Grand Tour from Rainy Lake visitor center. Our first stop was at an island to check out the gold mining activities during 1800s. Its a short loop hike. We also saw many bald eagles and loon. The park can also be explored by kayak, boat and houseboat.

Took the Grand tour - it was a 2 1/2 tour on a large boat that held about 50 people - for those that have a senior park pass it is half price $15 We saw loons, deer, a beaver lodge, white pelican, and lots of bald eagles. Was a wonderful trip on a great boat

The lake is perfect for fishing trips, recreational boating and jet skiing. Cabins are sprinkled all over the shoreline. It's also great for snowmobiling in the winter. Rainy lake borders Canada and half of the lake is Canadian territory.

Had a wonderful boat trip up Seine bay. Great day saw eagles flying in a spiral was amazing to watch. Rainy Lake has amazing views of wild life island scenery, secluded campgrounds. Would recommend the experience. If you don't have a boat you can rent a houseboat for the while family. Enjoy!

The visitor center is one of the smaller ones we have visited. It is one of three at the park. There is a movie that describes the history of the park and is worth seeing. There are several short hikes out of the center. It is the only center open year-round.
