Awesome Trail Revisited

Hiked the AT in 2004 and decided to revisit a few sections here. Nice terrain of varying degrees from easy to strenuous. Saw deer and bear!

The family hiked a small section of the Appalachian Trail. had a blast! The kids now have a better appreciation for pioneer life.

Been coming for over 20 years and never can miss a few short hikes. Love the rock scramble for a challenge, always like to try somewhere new too.

The great thing about the AT in Shenandoah is you can experience as much or as little as you want, and you'll be rewarded with good exercise, a sense of wilderness, and spectacular views.

Easily one of my favorite hikes! Approaching from 81, the parking lot is on the left which could possibly fill up on weekends. We went on a Friday morning and arrived around 8:30 and there were a good amount of cars there. They have port-a-pottties in the parking lot, which is a huge plus for me. But getting back to... The sections of the Appalachian Trail we have hiked in Shenandoah have been easy hiking. We are from New England, and are more accustomed to the parts of the AT near Mt. Washington or Katahdin, which offer more challenging hiking. There is still rise and drop of elevation, and some sections are more technical than others. There are plenty of... More

Experts doing the AT don't need a review of this trail. For a casual hiker like myself, I find it to be, in every instance I found myself hiking on it, narrow, steep, rocky, difficult. Now I plan my hikes in advance and avoid the AT.

Our trip along the Appalachian Trail was limited to Shenandoah National Park, VA. This gave us the opportunity to hike from Inn to Inn and not need to camp out at night. The views were fantastic, and we saw lots of wildlife. Parts of the hike were challenging, but it was very doable even for seniors like ourselves. If you... More

Been hiking on the AT since 1974. Have finished about 400 miles, but probably 2000 miles counting repeat hikes. I never grow tired of hiking on the AT, it refreshes my soul and rejuvenates my body. Even 71 years old, there are many sections that are still doable. Backpack if you can when young and day hike at any age.

This is a great day hike if you are willing to take your time to enjoy the views. It is a 1300 foot elevation change in 3.9 miles so fairly steep. It's easier to walk if you stay on the service road (to the left of the official A.T. marker) until it merges with the rest of the very rocky... More
