Just a short hike up, less than 2 miles (for sea level dwellers, the altitude is not that bad, relatively speaking). Views are great - we had a pretty clear day. Take binoculars if you have them. Trail is fun and views are fantastic and up and back down does not even take that long for person who even modestly walks / hikes regularly.

Like almost every scenic proposition in Kings Sequoia, the payoff is in the vista - so check the air quality before you go. I went with the pollution so bad that the mountain ranges were grey ghosts and no detail was evident. Keep in mind that blue skies don't mean clear - the pollution settles into the valleys so it obscures the view across to 8-10-12k feet. The saving grace is that Little Baldy is very similar to Big Baldy, a rocky outcropping at the payoff, so you can do this and skip the longer hike for the same result. A popular hike so you will see others along the trail. Be aware that there is no Little Baldy trailhead - it is labled Little Baldy Saddle on the Generals Highway.

I highly, highly recommend the Little Baldy hike. It's long enough that the casual tourist doesn't even attempt it so you can avoid the crowds, but not too long. It's uphill, but not too uphill. The trail is very well shaded from all the trees for the vast majority of the hike. The first mile is all uphill, pretty steep and definitely a puffer. But the last 3/4ths of a mile is more of a gentle incline across the top of the ridge. There's one very small dome of bare rock near the top. DON'T STOP! Keep going all the way until the end and you get majestic 360-degree views and the USGS elevation marker.

It took us about an hour to come up, 15 minutes to hang around and gawk, and 40 minutes to go back down. We only saw 6 or seven other groups of people the entire time, and everyone was wearing masks and happy to step to the side. There's a very cute little forest of young 6-ft tall sequoias you walk through. And the views on top are wayyyyy better than the views from Moro Rock. (Yes, I'm aware that a 2-hour hike is far more arduous than the hike to Moro Rock).

We all felt quite a sense of accomplishment at the feat, as it was the first time my kids or my wife had ever gotten to one of the USGS Bench Marks for elevation. And you definitely feel like you earned the view, unlike a roadside pull-out viewpoint. My 8-yr-old was skipping all the way back down. Well worth the effort!

We took the Little Baldy Trail in the late afternoon in September. We had the trail nearly to ourselves at that time and date. It's a colorful and fairly easy trail that take you to the top of one of the great rock formations in the Park. We saw a lot of beautiful flowers and wildlife, including a doe deer who led us on the trail down for a considerable distance before becoming bored with our company and moving off into the forest.

The view at the top is 360 degrees and spectacular, and many of the other landmarks in the Park are visible.

ONE COMPLAINT: While it doesn't rise to the level of defacement of spray paint - which we saw, to our dismay, at one point in the Park - the odd practice of building rock cairns for fun - as opposed to their proper purpose to mark trails - is out of control in this Park and others. This spectacular vista is marred by a couple dozen of these "artworks" that show only that the builder (a) can pile up stones as well as a third-grader and (b) has no respect for the natural state of the mountain. PLEASE STOP!

I decided to climb up to Little Baldy as a location grab some views of the sunrise - it was well worth the effort and time to make the trek. I pushed this hike all week due to the amount of elevation and distance - I was skeptical of my ability to make it to the top for sunrise. Fortunately, the hike didn't seem to be as bad as I expected, but the views were incredible in every direction. This hike could be great for sunrise or sunset and there is plenty to see along the way.

I would like to note that I ended up walking past a black bear on my way down - I didn't initally notice as I was less then 100 feet from the car so I was just focused on being able to get back to the car I completely walked by the bear.

We hiked Moro rock in the morning, then did Little Baldy that afternoon. Moro is great, but the top of Little Baldy is much better. It’s a little more work, but well worth the effort in my opinion

I like hikes, but I’m always nervous about how strenuous a trail will be. This hike was perfect for someone who likes to get the heart rate up, break a sweat, but not feel overwhelmed half way through. Even better, the “juice was worth the squeeze” as the view at the top was wonderful. We ended up spotting a bear (from a safe distance), which also made the trip quite memorable.

Definitely wear your waterproof hiking shoes/boots as it was muddy and snowy in spots. The altitude got to me a few times going up, so I took several small breaks.

Round trip took us 90 minutes, and it could be done faster if I hadn’t slowed down for breaks.

A lot of trails we were on this week were paved, so it was nice to be on one that felt more legit.

Highly recommend this one if you want to get off the beaten trail, but still want something manageable. My husband and two children also really enjoyed.

Yes, we needed to see if the surgery I had would allow me to enjoy hiking again and I say YES, indeed! This is coming from the perspective of an older couple (60-70 yrs old) who enjoy the outdoors. Others have remarked about it’s relative ease and that’s probably coming from experienced and fit hikers. Us not so much but we made it! The parking is on the two shoulders of Generals Highway (few cars can fit). Signage says “Little Baldy Saddle”, the trail is on the opposite side of the road, you will see a few stone paved steps and an information board. The distance is about 3.3 miles out and back but with about a 700-800 ft. elevation so you are steadily climbing up, then it flattens out towards the top. There are just a few switchbacks but they are long. There was a section of walking through new growth forest after some trees that were destroyed or damaged from fire. Amazing to see new trees developing. The granite Little Baldy dome was a bit too scary for me to climb but others did it and it affords grand unimpeded views of the mountain range. Plenty of shade going through forested area but once above you are exposed so hats were handy, bring lots of water, snacks. We took a lot longer to cover this trail than what has been described but for a couple of old cockers we made it through and the views were well worth it!! I had a total knee replacement one yr. ago, the doc said go for it and I did!
