Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado) Quick Facts Things to see: Estes Park, Emerald Lake, Trail Ridge Road, Adams Falls, Bear Lake and Chasm Lake. When to visit: The best time to visit the park is during the summer months when all the pass roads are open and you can explore the entire park. Do I need a hiking permit? Only... More

We went to this trail on a weekend in the end of September. It was literally the second most beautiful trail that I had ever hiked (1st one was Mt Rainier in June). The fall color was pretty even on the tundra area. Waterfalls everywhere on the trail and near the end of the trail. There was ice near the... More

Quite a challenging hike for us sea-level folks! Well worth the effort. We got one of the last parking spots at the trailhead at 0555 on a weekday Bring lots of water and be prepared for mountain weather.

What a great hike only took about 5 hours to do the 8.4 miles. We stopped for about a 45 minute lunch to take inn the sights on the top. What a beautiful day.

If you want to get away from nearly everyone in Rocky Mountain National Park, there is no better place to do it than hiking to Chasm Lake. Tucked below the Diamond on Longs Peak, nestled in the cirque between Longs Peak and Mt. Lady Washington, Chasm Lake is smack dab in the middle of God's country. It is a difficult... More

First and foremost, my hike to Chasm Lake was done in late August, 2015 during dry ground conditions. The forecast was for clear and sunny conditions all day. I carried a lot of water in my Camelbak and gatorade bottles in addition to a PB&J sandwich and snacks. Sunscreen is also a must. The elevation change is great and the... More

Chasm Lake was a wonderful hike my group of friends did in late July of 2015. Chasm Lake is a 8.4 mile round trip hike that has an elevation gain of almost 2,500 feet. The highest elevation point is 11,823 feet. The hike itself is strenuous and rocky making it a tough hike. There is a narrow path with a... More

After arriving in Denver via the airport early in the day, we were delayed significantly by an accident on the way to RMNP....grrr! We had planned to hike to Chasm Lake, but instead on got approximately 3 miles into the hike before we decided to turn around due to time of day. Regardless if we got to the lake or... More

It's 4.5 miles from the parking lot at Longs Peak trailhead also the starting point for Chasm Lake. The first couple miles climb steadily up through the forest and the trail is well maintained. Once you exit the forest and enter the alpine tundra zone the views open up and the stunted trees lining the trail soon disappear. Be advised... More

We had limited time to hike in the Rockies and chose the Chasm Lake Trail based on reviews. This hike is amazing. The hike takes about 6 hours round trip. Add more time for taking in the views, taking pictures, resting, etc. We did not make it to the lake due to the snowfield that covered the path near the... More
