This is one of the best places in the park to stop and drink in the majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountains and also get close (but not too close) to the wildlife, particularly the elk that abound in the meadow and alongside the road...More

When we drove this road in mid-September 2107, there were lots of cars pulled over on the side of the road which usually means animal watch. Indeed there were some elk grazing below which made all of us very happy.

Great place to get a view of what was left behind from the ice age glacial action. The moraine view from the Horseshoe Lookout is fantastic. Make certain that you stop. Plan at least 30 minutes to take in the scenery.

Horseshoe park is one of the best places to see mule deer. Every day we drove into the park there were animals. We saw elk, mule deer, coyote, geese, duck and a moose there.

By far, this is one of the hot spots for viewing elk in Rocky Mtn National Park. There is parking along the road as well as a parking lot. Some other areas don't have near the parking and any elk sighting creates traffic gridlock to...More
