Skull Rock is accessible from the roadside — many people park here to solely to visit and climb up this rock. It is a cool rock formation! Prepare to wait a few minutes if you want to actually climb Skull Rock. I arrived in the morning (10am) and only had to wait for one group of people to take a... More

We spent a few minutes at Skull Rock, and enjoyed the short hike along the near-by wash. It is a fun formation that is very close to the road, but many older folks we cam across had a hard time finding the rock (even though it is very close to the road). To maximize the formation's likeness to a skull,... More

Maybe it was just because I was there on a holiday weekend. It was like bus loads of people got there at the same time as I did. The rock is cool, and I really love skulls, but I couldn't stand the crowd. I went hiking on the 49 palms oasis trail and got away from all the people.

Worth a quick stop only if not overly crowded. It is usually hard to find a parking spot here. If you have to look for a spot, move on. There are other places to see like Hidden Valley or White Tank.

Very popular and crowded with people, it's much better to get here when it's sunrise. The skull is within easy walk from the turnout parking. A short trail leads around the skull to a campground.

it's literally right across form the street so you can't miss it. Lovely boulders and wilderness hikes are worth while but the skull rock is barely worth stopping for.

Unlike other sites within the park, Skull Rock is interactive but easy. The walk is fifteen feet from the road, and very close to the 29 Palms entrance. There are beautiful formations all around it. Can serve as a nice teaching moment about how the various formations were formed.

Skull rock can be accessed easily from the road in a convenient pullout, or alternately from a hiking trail commencing in Jumbo Rocks camping area. this is a very popular spot with tourists so it is difficult to get a photo as people are crawling all over it to get their "special" photos, without consideration of others. It is a... More

This was one of the closer attractions that you could stop at in the park and it was OK. It is right by the road so very convenient for people who can't go too far from their vehicle. It certainly looks like a skull but there is not much to do here besides see it. Our family is sort of... More
