This is obviously a must-see if you are visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. Although I believe it is closed at the moment but hopefully reopening soon. Glad I had the chance to see everything in February, before the big lava flow. Was captivated by...More

Wow what an experience! At first I wasn't excited about this visit but boy did I change my mind. Great trails to hike, fabulous viewing platform to watch lava lake, informative park rangers, a easy driving road to explore park. It has it all! The...More

Tried to go experience this parj. Everything was closed down still after weeks of no activity. Say they will open next week to coincide with a free day. How about opening as soon as possible?

Think about hiking and seeing the actual creation of where we will someday hike and picnic. Contemplate the sounds of lava hitting the sea, the beauty of creation, birth of land on our planet. The staff at the Visitors Center were friendly, informative and made...More

The resent lava flow and problems have closed the park and the inns, but are due to reopen in September 2019. When it was open we would go for a chilly morning drive to the park and eat breakfast in the restaurant. It will be...More

Every time we go to the Big Island we go to this park and spend at least 1 or 2 days there. There is so much to see and experience. I was able to hike to the dormant side of the volcano just 3 years...More

Off the beaten path off the Chain of Craters Road there is a short 3/4 mile easy hike to numerous petroglyphs. Be sure to pack water and wear a hat if it's sunny. There is no shade and heat radiates off the rocks but the...More

No there are no boats as of now. The security agencies have banned the Lava viewing. As the situation is dangerous. It will open up once the eruptions are in control.
