Visited the Haleakala Crater today! A must see when visiting Maui! We travelled the Haleakala Highway, a very enjoyable scenic route, all the way to the summit at 10,023 feet. The journey on the highway was amazing. So much to see. Being above the clouds was amazing and we stopped at many 'points of interest' or 'lookout points' along the... More

The price for this tour was steep and I started second guessing the decision after finding out the altitude (due to my asthma), but all turned out well. It is very cold there, but the sunset is absolutely beautiful! It was nice seeing rainbows as we got closer to the crater, and I was glad I went. It was worth... More

Watching the sunrise on Mt Haleakala is definitely worth waking up early! It is truly magnificent! You won't see more vivid colors/sights anywhere else in Hawaii. Pictures don't do it justice...you need to see it first hand. For time perspective, my husband and I stayed in Kihei and it took us almost exactly 1.5 hours to get from our condo... More

Very amazing views from the top and the way up for that matter! Suggest going earlier in the day to avoid the clouds which make their way up the mountain around midday. It costs $20 to enter the park and they make you pay by credit card (they rejected our American cash!) also note the hours of the interpretive centre... More

We drive to the crater in the afternoon when the sky was clear at the crater, stopping along the way several times. It is awesome to drive from sea level to 10,000 feet in just a few hours. We arrived at the top about an hour before sunset with the crater in the shadow. Fantastic views in all directions. Pictures... More

We decided to see the sunrise, so left our condo in Kahana at 4am. Made it up the mountain by 6a & there were already tons of people - all the spots by the railing were taken. We found a rock to stand on & did so for an hour (it was 41 degrees F), before the sun rose. It... More

We went to watch the sunrise at the crater and it was beautiful but very chilly and crowded. I would suggest leaving a bit early because if you get stuck behind someone slow this could add a lot of time to your drive. Also we did wear warm clothes but I wish I would've brought gloves and maybe a blanket... More

We had done a sunrise at Haleakala 11 years ago (which we loved!) so opted to do the sunset this time. The weather seemed cloudy as we started out but then it cleared up and we had beautiful views. It was very cold and the wind was blowing so hard that we thought it would blow us over. We still... More

We reached at about 5 am and it was freezing cold! (-3 C) we were treated to a stunning display of stars.. every constellation was visible and we lost count of the number of shooting stars we saw! We waited in the chilly wind for the sun to rise and it was totally worth it! Once the sun was visible... More

I think we woke up around 4:00 am and I would definitely recommend anyone thinking of going to go and see it. The reviews that suggested we bring warm clothes were not kidding. I was so thankful we had worn all the warm clothes we brought with us to Maui for this excursion. Waiting outside for the views although cold... More
