We've ridden by this area for nearly 47 years without stopping; so glad we stopped this time. The picnic area has more individual sites & restroom opportunities than any other we've seen. A creek runs beside it and there is a moderate .75 mile hike right off the picnic area. The first half of the loop trail has a bit... More

Love, love, love the creekside picnic spots. So relaxing and peaceful. Pack a lunch, then walk down to the creek and listen to the water rushing over the huge rocks. Nice to cool off in the warmer months. Also restrooms, which is very nice.

Good spot for taking a break from hiking and picnic some lunch before heading off to the next challenge. The facilities are adequate for stopping for an hour or so but it can get crowded, especially with bikers.

Drove up there this afternoon for lunch and the gate is closed again. Not sure why. Will try again tomorrow as this is one of the if not the best picnic areas anywhere, The stream is incredible.

I'm very glad this area is fully reopened. It's a great place to have a picnic or just sit and enjoy the river. Very scenic and fun to visit. There are bathrooms also. Unfortunately, the views of the ridgetop is black and depressing due to the fire. But this whole picnic area is green and lovely.

We took advantage of the beautiful weather and packed a picnic for dinner. The mountain stream is beautiful, and this is a great location for family photographs! Plenty of tables to choose from and the location is always clean!

This picnic area is completely opened now and fully thriving after the fires. The water was flowing Sunday and it was full again with people. There are lots of places to pull in by the water and bbq pits and picnic tables. Great spot to relax and hear the water flowing in the river and admire the beautiful stones and... More

Going to the chimneys picnic area has a lot of memories for me. This is where I used to go as a child with my parents in the 70s and 80s. Try to get a spot next to the river, relax and enjoy your day.

The Chimneys Picnic Area is open and was thriving in late March. It wasn't full like I have seen it in the summer, but a couple dozen people besides us were there enjoying the view out over the park and down toward Sugarlands and Gatlinburg. I did take away one star because the view up to the Chimney Tops is... More

Chimney tops trail is closed indefinitely due to fires, chimney tops picnic area (lower elevation than the trail) is open and appears untouched by the fires from fall 2016
