At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is Great Smoky Mountains National Park's highest point spectacular vistas from the top. It is a great place for sunrises and sunsets to see. We went on a cloudy day. Please keep a jacket it was windy and cold while we reached the top. Very well worth the hike.

We enjoyed our time at Clingmans Dome, and the walk to the top was a ton of fun. We visited in late September when the gorgeous Mountain Ash were covered in their bright red berries, and we loved seeing them all along our drive in and hike. The hike to the top is steep but paved, and it's a really... More

This will provide the best view of the Smokey's. You can also go on the Appalachian Trail as it is about 20 feet off this trail. Things to Note: 1. This will be about 10 degrees colder than parking level and 20 degrees colder than Gatlinburg level. Extremely windy, go prepared. Some travelers don't make it to the top because... More

What a beautiful place to visit. Well worth the walk to the top. Plenty of places to sit and rest along the way. One thing to remember is that it gets cooler the higher you go. A jacket tied around your waist may be needed.

Be in shape. This is a steep hike to the top. It is so worth it when you get to the top. It is amazing with amazing views. Bring your camera the views are outstanding. It feels like heaven up here.

This "hike" (is more of a long uphill paved walk) to Tennessee's highest point is a must do. The 360 degree view from the observation tower brings to mind a line from an old 70s song, namely "I'm on top of the world looking down on creation." However, let me say that while it's more wAlk than hike, it is... More

We traveled Newfound Gap Road twice during our visit to the Smoky Mountains. On our first arrival at Clingmans Dome we arrived as it began raining. Parking lot was completely full and the drive back toward Gatlinburg was very wet and dangerous due to the rainfall. The following day we decided to once again try to make it to Clingmans... More

Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi. Expect the drive up to take awhile and temperatures will drop 20 degrees cooler, the kids like to watch our thermostat drop as we go up. You can drive up and... More

Very steep, but also very short. I pushed my two daughters up to the top in a stroller, and definitely got my workout it. It was definitely harder coming down though!

Long, steep, strenuous walk to the top. Be advised that it is a long drive and then walk up the mountain on a paved walking path. Even in summer months you may encounter cold temperatures and snow on the ground at that elevation. The view at the top made the walk worth it. Very windy and chilly at the top.... More
